Chapter 14: The Village’s Shadow - 2

"If it is not too much trouble, may I use the library?"

"The library?"

There were Hidden Pieces that could only be obtained at certain times.

But that was only true in the game, where freedom was limited. Now that I had been transmigrated into the game itself, it was not impossible for me to acquire Hidden Pieces that were normally obtainable later on.

"I will show you there right away."

Perhaps I had accumulated enough contribution to the church. Reina promptly led me to the library.

Considering that the library was not readily opened to outsiders, this was quite encouraging.

The weeding was worth it.

As I was savoring that feeling, Reina tempted me from ahead with her alluring ass.

"You really are fascinating, Brother."

"Me?"

"Yes. I thought you did not even see the need to read books."

"I am the sort who cannot stand leaving questions unanswered. Besides, if it were not for you sisters, I would never have even considered reading books."

"Hehe. Sharing knowledge is part of a nun’s duty, after all."

When I praised her in return, Reina’s ass gave a pleased little wiggle.

She was an easy woman in so many ways.

Hmm, I want to smack that luscious ass.

I swiftly checked the surrounding area with my Hunter skill.

Then, the moment I confirmed no one was nearby, I smacked Reina on the ass.

Smack!

"Eek?!"

Reina let out a startled, girlish shriek, then stared at me with a face flushed bright red.

Pleased by her reaction, I calmly lied.

"My apologies. I was trying to swat a bug on your waist, but I put too much force into it."

"A-a bug?"

"Yes. It ran off that way."

I pointed at a nonexistent bug.

Reina initially gave me a suspicious look, but perhaps she could not see well in the dark. Letting out a sigh, she cautioned me.

"Phew... You startled me. Please tell me first next time."

"I will be more careful next time."

Her words raised one question in my mind.

So if I tell her first, she does not mind me touching her? I should try that next time.

Given Reina’s personality, she would not dislike even blatant sexual harassment. If anything, she would enjoy it.

She might even tempt me first, asking me to touch her more.

"Brother, we will be arriving at the reading room shortly, so please remain quiet."

"I will keep that in mind."

I had been thinking about how to sexually harass Reina from now on, but we had already arrived at the reading room.

Inside, nuns could be seen reading amid a tranquil atmosphere.

Why is a man here?

Did he take a wrong turn?

Mmph, the reading room’s fundamental rule is silence...

Several nuns looked startled at the sight of an outsider like me.

I can hear all of you.

Fortunately, since I was accompanied by Reina, a senior nun, the matter was quietly settled without any commotion.

It should definitely be here.

Pretending to look for a book, I headed to a corner of the reading room.

Then, in the narrow gap between two bookcases, I found a bundle of parchment.

This place really is no different from the game.

One of the Hidden Pieces in [A Country Village’s Circumstances]: [Magic Scroll: Invisible].

It was an item with the absurdly overpowered ability of invisibility, though unfortunately, its number of uses was limited.

As befitted an NTR game, it was a Hidden Piece intended to let you spy on a cheating wife.

But the story changed if it was used in combination with other Hidden Pieces.

Ian ought to try being a mage, too.

As soon as I left the reading room, Reina spoke to me.

"Brother, did you find the book you were looking for?"

"Yes, thanks to you, Sister, I found it."

I replied while showing her [Moon’s Shadow].

"You chose quite a difficult book."

"Is it that difficult?"

"Yes. It has many technical terms, so it will not be easy to read. If you need help, I can teach you beside you."

As befitted a medieval fantasy setting, most people in this world were illiterate.

Fortunately, Ian had the talent to read, so I did not actually need Reina’s help.

But I did not tell Reina that.

The more often we meet, the easier it is to build affection.

I put on an apologetic expression as I answered.

"I am sorry. I have troubled you because of my curiosity for no reason."

"It is all right. Helping you is part of our duty as nuns. And someone blessed by the goddess is always welcome."

"Then I will take you up on that, despite the imposition."

After arranging to read with Reina, I headed straight for the campsite.

There, I mixed Blue Herb and Green Herb gathered from the forest at a ratio of 0.5 to 2 and made a mana potion.

「[Apothecary] (Lv. 3)」

- Your understanding of pharmacology increases.

- Mind +3, Dexterity +3

Apothecary levels up better than I thought, too.

Perhaps thanks to my experience successfully making potions using knowledge from the game, the Apothecary job leveled quickly, just like my other jobs.

"Ugh... bitter. Next time, I should add some honey."

Next, I poured every mana potion I had made down my throat.

When mana potion addiction made the world look blue, I did not miss the opportunity and tore open the magic scroll.

[Invisible.]

A magical incantation appeared over my body, and soon I turned invisible.

But because of the mana potion addiction, my mana flowed backward, causing the magic to fail.

Fuck, this hurts way more than I expected.

It felt as though my internal organs were being twisted apart.

If I had not eaten Big-Dick Herb, I might have died.

I am going to die over a damn Hidden Piece.

In [A Returnee Hero’s Circumstances], entering a state of mana potion addiction temporarily causes mana to flow backward. If you use a self-targeting magic scroll at that moment, a curious phenomenon occurs.

[You have become a [Mage] (Lv. 1).]

The magic that flows backward is counted not as using a magic scroll, but as though I had personally succeeded in casting the spell.

Thanks to that, I could fulfill the condition for unlocking the Mage job: successfully casting magic once.

If I memorize the flow of mana that just reversed, I can use invisibility magic myself.

Of course, that was only theory.

Memorizing the flow of mana reversed by such pain was incredibly difficult. Even Wendy, the protagonist of [A Returnee Hero’s Circumstances], had only barely succeeded after using her regression ability over and over to memorize that flow of mana.

Naturally, it was a method unavailable to me, since I had no regression ability.

But I had high Vitality and Mind.

"Even without regression, I just have to keep trying until I succeed."

I tore another magic scroll.

Only eight magic scrolls remained now.

"Cough! Fuck, that hurts like hell."

I vomited blood midway through from the mana reversal, but my body actually felt lighter.

All hail Big-Dick Herb.

[You have become a [Mage] (Lv. 2).]

[You have become a [Mage] (Lv. 3).]

"Invisible."

With two magic scrolls remaining, I barely managed to make invisibility magic my own.

"Fuck, the difference in talent."

Though the types of magic were different, Wendy had succeeded after three regressions. It took me a full eight tries.

And I hear Wendy’s spell was even higher-tier magic.

As expected of an NTR protagonist, Ian had no talent for magic either.

Still, thanks to all this, my Mage job is already level 3.

「[Mage] (Lv. 3)」

- Your understanding of magic increases.

- Mana +3, Focus +3

The greatest advantage of the Mage job was that it could raise the difficult-to-increase Mana stat.

Thanks to that, my Mana had reached 8.

Invisibility lasts roughly eight minutes, I suppose?

There were several reasons I had learned invisibility before other spells, but the biggest was establishing an alibi.

At least I will not get caught having dealt with the witch.

Of course, I had not wasted such a precious Hidden Piece for that reason alone.

John’s gang should be making their move soon, right?

. . .

Late at night.

In the forest a short distance from the village, four village men were huddled around a campfire, plotting together.

A handsome man approached them.

It was John, the village chief’s only son.

"John, you are late!"

"Sorry. I was late because I had to placate Isolde."

"If you are going to keep doing that shit, just marry the bitch already."

"Why? Kaelen, do you want to fuck Isolde too?"

"Of course I do. There is not a man in this village who does not want to fuck that haughty bitch."

"Just wait a little longer. I think she will give in soon."

"Heh heh, I am looking forward to it."

At John’s answer, his gang wore vulgar smiles.

They could not contain their excitement at the thought that they would soon get to fuck Isolde, the village’s greatest beauty.

John felt at ease at the sight of his companions like that.

He was more comfortable with his fellow scum than when he had to wear a fake smile in front of others.

Then someone brought up a question that dampened the mood.

"Right. John, what is that hunter everyone has been talking about like?"
