Chapter 45: Regression 44 - Explosion

The South Sea.

It was the complete opposite of the North Sea, where the continent of frozen earth, the domain ruled by Guy Crimson, lay.

A clear emerald sea stretched out so wide it looked ready to touch the horizon itself.

And right now, I was flying high above that vast ocean, cutting through the fierce wind.

The reason was obvious: I was headed for [Eldorado].

The nation located a little farther south from the barren land, [Golden City Eldorado].

By landmass alone, [Eldorado] was even larger than [Sorcerous Dynasty Sarion]. The entire continent was a single nation.

Every city in that country was wrapped in gold, and because Leon, an otherworlder who had once dreamed of becoming an architect, had personally designed its buildings, it was one of the most advanced nations in the world.

But because it had almost no exchange with other countries, it was practically closed off from the world. The reason was simple: [Eldorado] had once been a place of exile.

'...Most of its people were [Demonoids], if I remember right.'

[Demonoids].

A race born between humans and demons, welcomed by neither side.

Rejected by humanity and monsters alike, they had always been shunned as an ominous race.

The place where they had been exiled to, and where they had fled, was the [Eldorado] of the past.

Leon, the Hero of that era, pitied those [Demonoids], decided to rule [Eldorado], and used forbidden magic to evolve himself into a [Demonoid]. In the end, that path would lead him to call himself a Demon Lord.

Of course, that wasn't the only reason he became a Demon Lord.

He would stop at nothing to find his childhood friend, Chloe, and in the end, he joined hands with those a Hero should never have cooperated with...

...Well, once someone became a monster, distinctions like good and evil had practically lost all meaning anyway.

'...Right now Leon is still a Hero, but in the end, he'll choose the same path as before and become a Demon Lord.'

About a hundred years.

After roughly a century had passed, he would call himself a Demon Lord, cut down that [Curse Lord], and become a new Demon Lord.

'That choice does lead to the best outcome. If he takes the Demon Lords' side, then later he won't end up hostile to me or the other Demon Lords.'

Most of the enemies we would have to fight three hundred years from now were forces opposed to the Demon Lords. So for me, Leon becoming a Demon Lord was the better outcome.

He could fight alongside us as part of our strength.

'This time, it'd be best if we just showed each other our faces and left it at that.'

Just as I'd told Chronoa, I intended to keep this meeting with Leon as short as possible.

Because meeting Shizu was impossible for now.

But...

'There's something more urgent I can do right now.'

There was still one thing left I needed to confirm.

No, to be honest, this might be even more important to me.

It was that difficult a gamble. And at the same time, something I had no choice but to challenge.

'...At the very least, I have to try. I even went out of my way to get that [Homunculus] for this.'

.........

As I flew on, lost in thought, the shape of [Eldorado] finally began to appear in the distance.

The faint golden outline in my vision was rapidly becoming clearer.

But when [Eldorado] finally came fully into view, something about it was wrong.

"I should be there in just a little—?!"

It was destruction.

Booooom

Brutal destruction caused by an explosion tinged with yellow light.

"......"

It wasn't hard to guess what kind of force could so easily pierce [Eldorado]'s barrier.

'......That's [Nuclear Magic]. And that [color]...'

<Report. A massive wave of magicules caused by [Nuclear Magic] has been detected. Search results indicate it is likely from the Primordial Demon Jonne [yellow].>

Just as I'd thought, that [Nuclear Magic] was Jonne's doing.

'Seriously... what incredible timing.'

Most likely, Jonne had descended on [Eldorado] together with that explosion just now.

If she had already descended earlier and been rampaging through [Eldorado], I would have sensed her magicules even from far away. Since I was only feeling them now, that meant she had descended almost at the exact same moment I first saw [Eldorado].

There was no way I, after already experiencing [Nuclear Magic] once, could have failed to detect Jonne's magicules.

'...I was planning to meet her anyway, so this works out better.'

Originally, I had intended to use my own magicules as bait to lure Jonne out. If she was coming to me in person like this, there was no reason to refuse.

Boom!Boom!Boooom!

As the explosions grew louder, I could see the number of [Nuclear Magic] blasts increasing exponentially.

Whoosh!

At that sight, I accelerated even more and shot toward [Eldorado].
