"Hehe~"
[Viole] understood her own shortcomings better than anyone.
That was only natural, considering she had spent ages locked in a three-way struggle against Ria and [Jonne], both of whom stood out even among the [Primordial Demons] for their exceptional magic power and intellect.
Though they had all been born on the same day, in the same world, as siblings, four of them were especially extraordinary.
[Rouge], Guy Crimson, was the strongest demon of all, the leader of the [Primordial Demons], and hardly needed any explanation.
As for [Noir], his natural talent rivaled even Guy's. If Guy was the strongest, then Noir was the most fearsome demon.
[Jonne] was a little lacking when it came to intellect, but she had been born with such overwhelming magic power that it more than made up for that weakness.
And [Blanc], Ria, stood one step ahead of even [Jonne], whether in the martial power born of battle instinct... or in reading the heart of the one she loved.
'...I have neither.'
Even [Blue] and [Vert], both slightly weaker than [Viole], had already gained the names Rain and Misery.
But she herself still had nothing.
As time passed, her siblings who had already crossed their limits would only continue to grow stronger, remaining as great pillars of the middle world... but for her, who still lacked even a body, every one of those things was difficult.
'...I need a body.'
Roughly a hundred years ago.
While [Viole] continued the work she had carried on for thousands of years, creating humans to use as bodies, she received an offer from the one she had long desired most.
If she withdrew all the hidden seeds in the [Western Nations], all the violet-aligned demons, he would personally make a body for her.
And so...
[Viole] naturally accepted.
She had already realized that he... Adelio, had some ulterior motive, but even so, she thought he was worth trusting.
Still, she was a demon too, and she did not let go so easily.
She intended to test how thoroughly Adelio could grasp the movements of her subordinates, and if it seemed possible to deceive him, she had no intention of stopping the sowing of seeds.
'...He's pretty good~ I knew he was trained by Guy, but I never thought he'd be skilled enough to see through all of it.'
Adelio found every [Arch Demon] [Viole] newly sent out, returned them to hell, and when any of them dared attack him, he crushed them with force so completely that they would never dare try again.
And every time, he would come to [Viole]'s territory and tell her that if she kept this up, he would have no choice but to withdraw his offer... yet he never actually took it back.
Whenever she asked him just this once to let it slide, he always gave in as if he couldn't help it.
'So that's why [Blanc] softened up...'
[Viole] had watched Adelio like that over and over again, and it was probably from then on... that her thoughts began to change.
'...Even if I gained a body and went to his side... [Blanc] would always be there with him...'
The existence of [Blanc].
No matter what [Viole]'s presence inside Adelio might mean, it could never surpass [Blanc]'s place.
Because the bond he treasured most, no matter who said otherwise, was [Blanc].
'...And even in the middle world, they'd always be together...'
Gaining a body would give her freedom and power, but it would also make him more distant.
Right now, because [Viole] was bound to hell, she could meet Adelio one on one. But once she was freed from this place, she would have to go looking for him herself... and she would always have to see [Blanc] beside him.
'...If that's how it would be... then maybe... this life as it is now would be better.'
At some point, talking with him had become more enjoyable than her old goal of gaining a body and reveling in freedom.
Unlike the subordinates who could not understand her, he was a demon who understood the way [Viole] thought.
Even the fact that she was always conscious of her own weakness, of lagging behind the others.
Adelio knew the demon called [Viole] well.
"...Hehe~..."
The one thing he did not know about [Viole] was that smiling laugh she used to hide what lay inside her.
'...If... if you had been born as my subordinate, what would that have been like...?'
If only you had been my subordinate instead of [Blanc]'s... that would have been so much better.
'...Then conversations like this could have gone on forever, without caring about time at all~...'
Do you... already know~? That I—
'...I really am... jealous~...'
—am so happy over nothing more than these little conversations with you.
'...You're always farther ahead than me...'
—and that just to meet you alone... I deliberately keep breaking the promise I made to you.
