The Jura Great Forest.
A lawless region even the [Demon Lord]s had declared off-limits.
It was originally a land ruled, at least outwardly, by [Storm Dragon] Veldora.
But Veldora, a violent calamity, had been sealed by two [Hero]es in the Sealed Cave at the heart of the great forest—and then, after a very long time had passed, he came face to face with a single living creature.
"...Where is this...?"
Wriggle...
Round and soft,
Wriggle...
small and bluish,
Wriggle... wriggle...
the weakest of monsters.
"...Heaven?"
It was a single slime.
**
And then—
<...You want me to keep watch on that slime?>
"Yeah. He's going to become our comrade."
A youthful voice and a mature one.
Two voices, exact opposites of each other, echoed inside the mind of the demon standing silently outside the cave.
"If it's one of the small 'clones' you make, even Veldora won't notice it, so I'm asking you for this. I still have a few things left to deal with in hell."
The demon who was also a [Hero], the one giving an order that was almost a request to the [Devil Lord], smiled faintly.
<...Fine. You did [Contract] to pay properly for dessert, after all.>
Answering in a tone that suggested this was all terribly absurd, the [Devil Lord], Moss, cut off the [Thought Communication] with those final words.
"..."
After confirming the [Thought Communication] had ended, the ash-haired demon slowly raised his head and gazed up at the sky.
"...I've waited a very long time for this."
Three hundred years of waiting.
Now that he could finally witness the fruit of it with his own eyes, the smile at his lips deepened further, as rich and intimate as one meant for a lover.
"I even prepared a hunting ground for you myself... so go on and rampage to your heart's content, 'not bad slime.'"
Having resolved to play every card he had prepared for this moment, the demon surrendered himself to his soaring anticipation and began making preparations once more.
For the reunion with that slime, now not far away.
