Chapter 76: Date with Miku

The day after my date with Kaguya, I met Miku at a restaurant that looked ridiculously upscale.

“Sorry, darling. I wanted us to meet up normally and go on a proper date, but Kotori stopped me. She said that if Izayoi Miku were seen out with a man, it would cause a huge scandal.”

“I see...”

Miku looked a little disappointed, but the commander was completely right.

If a popular idol were spotted walking around with a man, it would be exactly the kind of thing reporters lived for.

“But, Miku... isn’t this place insanely expensive? I just came dressed normally...”

In contrast to the elegant atmosphere, I was wearing casual clothes.

I felt out of place, worried that I was being swallowed by the mood—or perhaps I was just embarrassed. My outfit simply didn't fit the venue.

“You don’t need to worry about that. You look plenty handsome even in casual clothes, darling.”

“No, I mean, that’s nice to hear, but...”

From Miku’s perspective, I might have looked great, but I was still completely mismatched with the restaurant's decor.

“Th-thank you.”

I wasn’t used to having a waiter bring food to my table, and I found myself stammering.

“Is it uncomfortable for you?”

“...A little. It’s a valuable experience in its own way, but it doesn’t really suit me. I prefer ordinary places...”

I hated to tell Miku, but this kind of fancy atmosphere made me uneasy.

I had spent a long time living as an ordinary person, and even in this world, I mostly frequented regular eateries. Places like this made it hard to relax.

“But if we go outside, people are definitely going to make a scene...”

Seeing Miku’s dejected face made me feel guilty.

“That’s a problem! What should we do~!”

That guilt vanished the moment Miku’s expression shifted.

Her cheeks flushed, her face lit up with joy, and her voice turned excited, as if she had just hit upon a wonderful idea.

Immediately, my danger sensor started going off.

“M-Miku?”

“That’s it! If darling isn’t a man, then the problem is solved, right!?”

“No, that’s not...”

“Oh my, what a coincidence! I just happen to have a Raizen High School girls’ uniform!”

My danger sensor never betrayed me.

Sometimes, I wished it would.

“...Fine. If it makes you happy, then whatever.”

I didn’t have the heart to refuse Miku when she was looking at me with those sparkling eyes.

*******

“Heehee~”

“......”

At Miku’s request, I put on the Dark Clutch Ring and the Ring of Favor and Protection, transformed into a woman, and stepped out onto the street.

Miku seemed to be in a fantastic mood, humming to herself as she linked arms with me. I walked along in silence, once again struck by the fact that I had become a girl.

“Woooow...”

Passersby let out little gasps as they watched us.

Miku was a stunning beauty by any standard, and—though I hated to admit it—my female form was also quite pretty. It made sense that people would stare at two beauties walking side by side.

“M-Miku? Could we maybe go somewhere with fewer people...”

That didn’t mean I wasn’t embarrassed. I was still a man at heart, and I wasn't used to being stared at like this.

“What’s the big deal? We’re both girls, aren’t we?”

Miku ignored my concerns and clung even closer.

“This is part of the date plan! Right, Miyuki?”

“...Yeah, maybe.”

I decided to stop thinking about it.

That seemed like the easiest way to preserve my sanity.

Anyway, following Miku led us to a clothing store.

Miku dragged me inside and began trying all sorts of outfits on me, one after another.

“This one is a bit...”

The first was a standard girl's outfit.

“This is no different from the Heavenly Festival.”

The second was a maid outfit.

“Hey, this is seriously...”

The third was a dress straight out of a manga, featuring a massive ribbon tied around the waist.

“Mm-hm. They all suit you!”

“No, they don’t suit me at all. So—”

“Ah! This one’s cute too! But it looks hard to put on by yourself.”

Miku ignored me, picked up another outfit, and looked at me with a sly expression.

“Wait—”

“Miyuki! I’ll dress you!”

“Hey! Miku!”

“Oh my, such a cute darling!”

“Help me!!!”

Miku stormed into the fitting room and began fussing over me, touching me all over.

Goodbye, my dignity...

*******

After that, our date continued.

Once we finished with the clothes, we went to a millinery.

Dozens of hats of every imaginable style hung upon the walls.

“From here to here. I’ll take them all.”

And Miku bought every single one.

“Wow, I never thought I’d see something from a drama happen in real life...”

I had never expected to witness the ridiculous spending habits of the wealthy—the kind usually reserved for TV shows—right in front of me.

“But aren’t you buying too much...?”

“Huh? Miyuki, you really are something~ I’ve got money!”

“No, I’m the one carrying all of it.”

The problem was that I ended up as the pack mule.

On top of the clothes we’d already purchased, I was now clutching paper shopping bags in both hands.

“What’s the problem!”

After that, Miku continued her spree with necklaces.

“All of them!”

Even women’s underwear.

“A-ll of it!”

“Whoa!”

She bought absolutely everything she could find.

By the time we finished, it was already evening. I had to ask [Fraxinus] to provide a truck to load all the luggage.

“There’s still room for more!”

“Where?”

“On top of the luggage! Right there!”

“Heave-ho!”

“Sorry about this.”

I felt bad for the crew members working so hard to move everything.

They were doing all this heavy lifting just because of our date.

“We’re fine! We get bonuses for this too!”

“Ah, I see.”

Well, if they were getting bonuses, I could understand why they were so enthusiastic.

“How was today’s date, darling?”

While I watched the luggage being loaded onto the truck, Miku asked for my thoughts.

I thought about it for a moment, then replied, “Hmm... It was fun. Except for the part where I turned into a woman. Still, shopping as a girl was a new experience.”

As I spoke and took off the ring, I spotted the blonde girl I’d seen during my date with Kaguya.

Since Miku couldn’t be seen dating a man, I hurriedly slid the ring back on.

“Ah, over there!”

“There’s no one there.”

“Huh?”

Just as I tried to explain, the girl had vanished again.

“Hehe. Did you see something, darling?”

“Y-yeah. I guess I did...”

Just like last time, who on earth was that girl?

My worries only deepened.

*******

Some time later, my date with Miku ended as we arrived in front of her house.

“Today was really fun. I haven’t had a chance to talk to you alone like this in so long, darling.”

“Yeah, that’s true. We go to different schools, and you’ve been busy with work.”

I didn’t have much to do besides dealing with spirits, but Miku was an idol with a packed schedule.

Naturally, I had fewer chances to talk with Miku than I did with the other spirits.

“Can you go on a date with me again?”

Miku asked if I could go out with her again, clearly wanting more than just this one outing.

I smiled and said, “Yeah. Of course. If you want, I can be Miyuki again.”

After all, Miku truly loved me.

If it made her happy, I was prepared to transform again.

...Well, once I became a woman, I’d just leave the rest to that version of me.

“R-really...?”

Miku looked shocked by my answer and asked for confirmation.

I wasn’t sure why she was so surprised, but considering how I usually reacted, I supposed it made sense.

“Why would I lie?”

“Th-then, can you do it now?”

“Now?”

We were about to part ways, so why not?

At Miku’s request, I put the ring on again.

Then Miku hugged me tightly.

“Miku?!”

“I really like you! Thank you!”

“Hey! Wait! You’re touching me! You’re touching me!”

Apparently, Miku was quite well-endowed, as a certain part of her made its presence very known.

“I love you! Darling!”

“Yeah! I get it already!”

I had to remain in Miku’s arms for a while.

*******

After my date with Miku ended, I went to [Fraxinus] with Itsuka-kun at the commander’s summons.

“Hiki, haven’t you gotten more skilled? At acting feminine and all that.”

“...Quit talking nonsense and tell me why you called me here.”

I was unsettled because I had to admit she was right.

“I’ve got good news. Just like with Kaguya, we’ve confirmed that the spirit waves of the spirits you’ve dated are weakening as well.”

“Really? Then that’s a relief.”

“I’ve only got Tohka left now... Hieta still has a lot left.”

“That’s because that’s his karma.”

“What karma?”

I was speechless.

“Anyway, that was all I wanted to talk about today. You can go now.”

Whether she was telling the truth or not, the commander headed home with Itsuka-kun.

“What the hell? If it was just that, she could’ve texted me.”

Muttering to myself, I headed home as well.

Well, if dating was the solution, then I guess that was good enough.
