“[Adonai Melek]!”
With the girl’s cry, her clothes began to shift and transform. Then, she stomped her foot.
Rumble
The ground trembled slightly as a throne with a massive handle was summoned from the void.
“Oh, damn, that’s cool as hell.”
I wondered if I could get something like that too. Ah, right. I’m not a spirit.
“[Sandalphon (Ossal Sword)]!”
The girl gripped the handle and pulled, revealing a gigantic sword. With a single, powerful swing, she split the throne in half. The throne shattered into fragments that clung to the blade, transforming it into an even more colossal weapon.
“[Halvan Helev (Final Sword)]!”
As she swung the sword, a massive wave of blade aura flew straight toward me.
“Fuck!”
Seeing that gargantuan slash coming my way, I cursed and rolled to the side.
“Are you insane?!”
Looking back at where the aura had passed, I saw the earth had been split clean in two. If I had messed up, I would have ended up just like the ground.
“Was it you? Was it you who attacked my friend, my companion, Shido?”
Before I knew it, the girl was floating in the air, looking down at me with cold eyes.
“No! I didn’t attack him! Well, I did, but! I didn’t mean to—”
“—I won’t hear your excuses! I’ll kill you, kill you, and crush you completely!”
With a scream, the girl began hurling those massive sword auras at me in rapid succession.
“Fuck! Listen to me, you people!!!!”
“Shut up! Because of you, Shido was hurt!”
“Agh!!!”
No matter how hard I rolled to dodge, there was a limit. The moment my momentum ended, a blade aura slammed directly into my body.
My vision split. My body was cleaved in two by the aura, and I collapsed.
“This is for Shido’s revenge.”
“No, the way you say that makes it sound like I killed the boy!”
I only made him fall over with a [Force] release!
Anyway, seeing me "die," the girl let her guard down. This was my chance!
“[Lumos Maxima]!!!!”
“What the—!!!”
The girl whipped around at my shout. Got you.
“My eyes!!!”
What I used was a spell called illumination. Normally, it would only produce a simple, soft light.
“This is the maximum brightness of maxed-out intelligence!”
With my Intelligence at 99, this wasn’t ordinary light anymore. It was practically the intensity of the sun.
“Haa... That was a long, long battle...” (In reality, it hadn’t taken that long.)
As I muttered that and looked up at the sky—
“Tohkaaaaa!!!!”
“What the hell is that now?!”
The boy from earlier was falling out of the sky. The girl, Tohka, was still on the ground, clutching her eyes and rolling around from the aftereffects of my spell. What do I even do?
“Shido! Is that Shido!”
Hearing his voice, the girl shot up. However, her eyes remained shut; the blindness hadn't worn off yet.
“Haa...”
I sighed and activated the miracle [Emergency Treatment]. The girl opened her eyes, glared at me for a moment, and then looked away.
“Shouldn’t you save the boy first?”
At my words, she snapped her attention away from me, flew over to the boy, and caught him. She whispered something to him in midair, and then, suddenly, she kissed Shido right on the lips.
“What am I even looking at?”
Just as I was muttering that, my phone rang.
Click
“What is it, Commander?”
“You! What did you do?!”
“Why? What happened?”
“All the crew members watching the screen are clutching their eyes and rolling on the floor!”
Ah. I’ve got nothing to say to that.

After a little while, everyone, including the boy and the girl, was transferred to the [Fraxinus].
“Haa... For now, Tohka has to go somewhere else for an examination. You and Shido stay with me for a bit.”
At the commander’s words, I nodded and followed her with the boy.
“Oh, there were places like this too?”
“It’s just an empty room.”
The place the commander brought us to contained only one table and a few chairs.
“Now, sit here.”
The commander was already sitting down. When did she even move?
“...Kotori? Who is this person...?”
The boy sitting in the chair looked at me with curiosity and asked the commander who I was.
“Shido. Did you really forget? I told you last time, didn’t I? That I hired a bodyguard to protect you. What, have you already developed dementia? Should I look into a nursing home for you?”
Even I, just listening, felt my head spin at the commander’s ruthless words. No exaggeration, it felt like listening to a diss track.
“If you mean the one you told me about... is that person [Knight]?”
As expected, this boy also knew my identification name.
“That’s right. The spirit who’ll be your bodyguard from now on. Identification name: [Knight].”
“No, wait a second, Commander. I’m not a spirit!”
“Since you deny being a spirit—just as I've heard—it’s better not to call you one unless necessary.”
You bastard, Commander. You literally just called me a spirit.
“You’re calling me a spirit right now, and—”
Good! Say something, boy!
“What?”
“Never mind.”
He got shut down by a single line from the commander. Isn’t he a little too weak?
“Ahem. Nice to meet you, [Knight]-san.”
“Yes. Nice to meet you too.”
“But why is your identification name [Knight]...?”
At the boy’s question, I pulled my armor out of my inventory and equipped it.
“?! You suddenly have armor?”
“Don’t be surprised by something like that. Are you a child?”
“Haha, the commander saying that is the biggest child—”
“—Shut up!”
The commander struck me in the stomach. But what could she do? I was wearing armor.
“Guh!”
Or so I thought. Somehow, the commander’s attack pierced right through the armor and dealt damage. Ah, come to think of it, the commander was a spirit too...!
“Anyway, since you’ll be seeing each other often, try to get along. I’ve got work to do.”
With that, the commander left us behind. The boy remained seated, and I was sprawled on the floor. An awkward silence hung between us.
“Um... [Knight]-san is a male spirit, right?”
The boy was the first to break the silence. No, I told you, I’m not a spirit!
“Hoo. Why do you ask?”
“W-well...”
The boy’s explanation was simple. He could seal spirits, but to do so, he had to go on dates and build up affection. Once the affection reached a certain level, he had to kiss them to complete the seal.
As he explained this, cold sweat poured down his face. Probably because if I actually were a spirit, he’d have to seduce a man.
“Let me say this again. I am not a spirit. Please ignore whatever the commander said. I am. Absolutely. Not. A spirit.”
“Y-yes, sir!”
“Good. Anyway, we should introduce ourselves properly. The commander only gave a brief introduction. My identification name is [Knight]. I’m not a spirit, though people keep calling me one. Again, I’m not a spirit.”
“Ah, my name is Itsuka Shido.”
“I see. Understood, young master Itsuka.”
At my words, a look of confusion appeared in Shido's eyes. Why?
“U-um, that... ‘young master’ is a little...”
“Ah, that’s the problem, then. Would Itsuka-kun be fine?”
“Yes. Come to think of it, you keep calling Kotori ‘Commander,’ don’t you?”
Well, because the commander never told me her name!
“Because she’s my superior.”
“But why do you use such formal language...?”
“Well, because the commander keeps calling me a spirit.”
“Ahh...”
Shido nodded, apparently understanding my plight.
“So, anything else you want to know?”
“Um, do you maybe have any other abilities?”
Shido asked with bright, eager eyes. Yeah, at this age, boys are obsessed with that kind of thing.
“Then I suppose I do.”
I pulled the [Warped Sword] out of my inventory.
“Ooh!”
“Like this!”
I drew the sword and brought it down, sending a dark purple blade aura sweeping across the floor.
Kragagagak!
“What do you think?”
“Amazing!”
After that, Shido asked if he could try one too.
“Hmm... Ah, this should be possible.”
I handed Shido a Tailbone Dagger. I didn’t know what his stats were, but I figured he could handle something like this.
“How do I use it?”
“Just swing it down with all your strength.”
Following my instructions, Shido swung the Tailbone Dagger down with all his might.
As he did, a small storm surged forward in a straight line along the floor.
Kwagagagak!
“Wow...”
Seeing Shido’s amazed expression, I felt that lending it to him had been the right call.
“Well, are you satisfied now?”
“Yes. Completely satisfied.”
Just as I was taking the Tailbone Dagger back from him—
“Hey!!! What the hell are you doing!!!!”
The commander came rushing back after hearing the noise, scolding both me and Shido.
