I decided to drink Shuwa Shuwa and wait until Kazuma and Aqua realized at the reception desk that they had no money.
I thought that if I went over from the start, gave them money, and asked them to let me help, the value of the money I gave them would be greatly diminished.
The situation began unfolding just like in the original story.
After being shown the way by the tsun-tsun old man, Kazuma and Aqua were heading toward the reception desk.
Just as I expected, Satou Kazuma was an ordinary-looking teenager with dark brown hair, dressed in a green tracksuit.
"Aqua, today we're registering with the guild and securing a place to stay."
"All right. I don't really understand games, but that's just common sense in this world, right?"
"Yeah. Then let's go."
"Why was such a capable man a shut-in otaku with no girlfriend or friends? Why did you lock yourself up every day and act like some shut-in NEET?"
Curious, Aqua asked Kazuma, and he grimaced as if she had hit him right in the bones. He looked seriously rubbed the wrong way.
"Cut it out with the shut-in NEET crap! You bitch, don't combine shut-in and NEET!"
The reason Kazuma reacted so sensitively was that, when he was in his third year of middle school, the childhood friend he had been close enough to promise, "Let's get married when we grow up," started dating another delinquent boy. The emotional shock drove him to escape into games. Apparently, that was why he could not even manage school properly.
Kazuma and Aqua arrived in front of Luna, the guild receptionist.
"Welcome~ What can I do for you today?"
"Um, I'd like to become an adventurer."
"I see. Then there is an initial registration fee..."
"Y-Yes??? A registration fee?"
Kazuma looked at Aqua in a panic.
"Do you have any money?"
"I was dragged here all of a sudden. There's no way I'd have money!"
"Ahem... We'll come back later."
Kazuma and Aqua quietly stepped away and sat at a table in front of mine.
"What do we do? We've hit a wall right away. Normally, you at least start with basic equipment, or somehow get enough money for living expenses..."
"How unfriendly!"
Kazuma must have played too many games.
"You suddenly don't seem reliable anymore. Though, what could I expect from a shut-in NEET?"
"Cut it out with the shut-in NEET."
That was when I rose from my seat and spoke to them.
"Hey, Aqua."
"Huh? You're that handsome guy from before?"
"You forgot my name already?"
"Ahaha, I sent so many people off that it can't be helped if I forget, right?"
At Aqua's attempt to act cute, I wondered if she had no shame at all.
"Who's that handsome guy?"
Kazuma looked at my face and asked Aqua.
"The person I sent here before you and I came."
"Nice to meet you. I'm someone who was summoned to this world too. My name is Park Tae-jin. Just call me Tae-jin."
"Hello. I'm Satou Kazuma. It's nice to meet you. But Park Tae-jin... are you Korean?"
I told him the backstory I had come up with while eating fried toad.
"Well, I'm half American and half Korean. I came to Japan for work, got caught up with a black company, and worked myself to death. I died of overwork. Hahaha."
"Ugh... Somehow, I feel sorry as a Japanese person."
Without any suspicion, Kazuma scratched his head and averted his eyes apologetically.
"It's fine. It's not like you're the black company."
"Anyway, you guys are hungry, right? Let's eat something. It's on me."
I ordered two portions of fried toad, a salad, and three Shuwa Shuwas.
"Thanks. But Tae-jin, you came here around the same time as us. How did you get money?"
"I sold the clothes I brought with me. Luckily, modern clothes are made of materials they can't produce here, so they bought them for a good price."
"Hee~ You're more reliable than a shut-in NEET, aren't you?"
Hearing himself called a shut-in NEET again, Kazuma angrily grabbed Aqua's cheeks and began pulling them.
"Nyeheheh~~~~~"
While Kazuma and Aqua bickered, the food we had ordered came out.
"Wow~ This is delicious."
Kazuma and Aqua began eagerly eating the fried toad.
Then I said one thing.
"That's fried frog."
"W-What did you say???"
Aqua simply kept eating, but Kazuma, who had been enjoying it, suddenly turned pale and dropped the fried toad he was holding onto his plate.
"Don't worry too much. It's not like you can't eat it. I saw it on my way here: in this world, Pacific saury grows in fields. So you need to get used to the food too."
At my words, Kazuma glanced once at the fried toad, then began eating only the salad.
"Kazuma, Kazuma, if you're not going to eat that, give it to me."
Aqua swiftly picked up the fried toad Kazuma had dropped onto his plate and began eating it.
At any rate, she was a goddess with quite the appetite.
Since I only drank Shuwa Shuwa without eating, Aqua asked me with her cheeks puffed full.
"Aren't you eating, Tae-jin?"
"Swallow before you talk. Anyway, I ate before you two got here."
"Oh, right! And I heard earlier that you didn't have the guild registration fee, right? I'll lend it to you."
I put 2,000 Eris into Kazuma's hand.
"Oh~ Thanks."
After finishing their meal, Kazuma and Aqua asked receptionist Luna to register them again.
Once they had completed a process similar to mine, Luna examined the card and spoke.
"Satou Kazuma, is it? Let's see..."
Kazuma's eyes were filled with anticipation.
"Everything is average. Aside from your intelligence being fairly high... your luck is abnormally high. Luck is not a particularly necessary stat for an adventurer, but with luck like this, I would recommend becoming a merchant."
Kazuma's face turned as though he had bitten into shit, while Aqua, watching from behind him, covered her mouth and began snickering.
"Hey, my entire adventurer life just got denied out of nowhere."
Kazuma sighed as though he had no choice and spoke to Luna.
"U-Um, I'd like the basic class, Adventurer, please."
"...Please don't be too disappointed. You can change classes once you raise your level."
Luna spoke as if encouraging the disappointed Kazuma.
"R-Right?"
Next, Aqua began registering.
"Wow~ Aside from your intelligence being below average and your luck being at the absolute lowest level, every one of your stats is far above average!"
Luna looked at Aqua's card and spoke in surprise once more.
"What? What? Does that mean I'm amazing?"
"What is today? Two people with incredible stats have come in. This is truly astonishing."
Kazuma asked curiously.
"Two people?"
"One of them is Tae-jin, over there."
When Kazuma and Aqua looked at me, I smiled and waved at them.
"In any case, jobs in the mage line that require intelligence would be difficult, but other than that, you can choose any class. [Crusader], [Sword Master], [Archpriest]—most advanced classes from the start."
Aqua struck a proud pose and spoke.
"Well~ It's a shame there's no class called Goddess, but in my case, perhaps I'll be an [Archpriest] who heals her companions?"
"An [Archpriest]! It is a powerful, versatile class that can freely use all manner of healing and support magic, and is strong enough to fight on the front line without any trouble."
Woooooah~~~~
The surroundings suddenly became noisy. The other adventurers and employees watching had begun cheering at the appearance of an advanced class.
"Then welcome to the Adventurers Guild, Aqua. We look forward to your future accomplishments."
At that, many people around us congratulated Aqua or marveled at her.
"An [Archpriest] all of a sudden? That's incredible~"
"Someone like you might unexpectedly defeat the Demon King!"
"Congratulations~"
Embarrassed, Aqua responded by waving her hand. I must not have received an event like this because I had simply chosen the basic Adventurer class.
As we left the guild amid the congratulations, Kazuma spoke resentfully.
"Ugh... Shouldn't something like this be happening to me?"
Though I knew, I pretended not to and asked Kazuma.
"Come to think of it, what did you receive as your special bonus that you couldn't get an advanced class?"
At that, Kazuma lowered his head as though dejected and silently pointed at Aqua.
"Then Aqua didn't just come down from the heavenly realm. She came along as Kazuma's special bonus?"
Aqua glared at Kazuma and spoke.
"That's right! I mean, what an unbelievable nuisance."
At that moment, Kazuma snapped again, grabbed both of Aqua's cheeks, and began pulling them.
"What are you talking about?! You came with me as my special bonus, yet you're a useless goddess who can't do anything! Don't get so full of yourself just because you got an advanced class!"
"Nyehbehbeh~~~~"
I stepped in to stop them for now.
"Whoa, whoa, calm down. We need to think about what to do next. For now, our clothes stand out too much, so let's buy some clothes first."
After asking people for directions, we each bought one set of everyday clothes at a clothing store and found lodging. Of course, I paid for everything.
