Chapter 7: KonoSuba 3

I approached a group of women who looked like adventurers and asked where the Adventurers Guild was.

The female adventurer took one look at my face, suddenly blushed, and began stammering in flustered confusion. The male adventurer beside her, who seemed to be her companion, frowned and nudged her in the side until she finally came to her senses and told me where the guild was.

'Just as I thought, looks are a weapon.'

Once the guild building came into view, I opened the door and went inside.

"...Welcome~ If you are here to eat, please take any open seat. If you need assistance, please go to the counter farther inside."

The female employee serving food inside the guild paused briefly when she saw me, then gave me directions.

In KonoSuba, the Adventurers Guild also operated a restaurant inside. It was unusual. In other fantasy worlds, too many rough adventurers would come to the guild and fights would break out all the time, so they would never even consider running a restaurant.

"Hey~ That is a face I have not seen before."

A mean-looking middle-aged man with a mohawk spoke to me.

I knew him from the original story. He spoke harshly, but he encouraged adventurers and showed rookies the ropes.

"Believe it or not, I am someone who dreams of becoming a hero. I came to join the Adventurers Guild."

"Oh, yeah? You are a reckless one! Welcome to the entrance to hell! Guild registration is over there."

Leaving the gruff old man behind, I headed to the guild reception desk.

'Wow~ Her breasts... So this is Luna, the guild receptionist.'

She was Luna, the blonde, busty receptionist who was the most popular one at the Adventurers Guild. Because of her pretty face and large breasts, adventurers would specifically go to Luna for help even when other receptionists were available. Apparently, it gave her so much extra work that the stress was no joke.

"...Welcome~ What can I help you with today?"

Luna also paused briefly upon seeing my face, but she soon smiled and attended to me.

"I came to sell some items. I heard the guild buys unusual goods. I would also like to use that money to register as an adventurer."

"I see. Then could you show me the items you would like to sell first?"

I took a backpack out of my inventory and showed her the clothes I had brought.

Inventories were not common in this world, but equipment and skills that could store items did exist. So I used my inventory without concern.

Luna began carefully examining the clothes.

"These clothes are made with fine fabric! I believe we can purchase this outfit—sweats—for 20,000 Eris, this one—a suit—for 30,000 Eris, and this one—jeans—for 10,000 Eris. For a total of two sets of sweats, one suit, and two pairs of jeans, that comes to 90,000 Eris. Would you like to sell them?"

Jeans were more expensive than sweats, but apparently the fabric for the sweats looked more luxurious.

"Yes, please."

Luna put away the clothes and handed me 90,000 Eris.

Eris, KonoSuba's currency, had the same numerical value as the Japanese yen. So 90,000 Eris was 900,000 won in Korean currency.

"Here is the purchase amount. Adventurer registration also has a fee of 1,000 Eris. Shall I register you right away?"

"Yes, please register me."

I immediately paid the 1,000 Eris.

"Then I will explain everything right away."

Luna brought out a blue crystal ball and a brown card from the reception desk, then showed me the card.

"Every adventurer has a class. This is your registration card. It also records how many monsters you have defeated. When you level up, you receive points for learning skills, so please work hard to raise your level."

Luna placed the brown card on the wooden stand beneath the blue crystal ball.

"Now, please place your hand on this crystal."

"Like this?"

When I placed my hand on the crystal ball, it began to glow, and the devices attached to it started moving.

Then various pieces of information began appearing on the card.

"This will tell us your stats, so please choose the class you want based on those values~"

Once the process was finished, Luna picked up the card, examined it, and then shouted at me in surprise.

"Wow~ This is amazing! These are the highest numbers I have ever seen! Other than your Luck being average, your stats are overwhelmingly high. With numbers like these, you can choose any advanced class from the start, including Sword Master, Crusader, and Archpriest. This is truly incredible!"

'Huh? That is strange. Strength and mana are high because of my cheat, but the other stats should not be that different.'

I accepted the card and saw that every value was displayed at twice its normal amount.

'Ah! The standards it uses to display them are different from my status window.'

Since the stats Kazuma had received at the beginning were higher than mine, I had thought the people of the KonoSuba world simply had stronger bodies. But that was not it; the display standards were different.

With so many worlds out there, it was easy enough to understand that their standards could differ as well.

[Status Window] Strength: 50 (100) Stamina: 40 Agility: 30 Intelligence: 20 Mana: 352

[KonoSuba] Strength: 300 Vitality: 80 Magic Power: 704 Intelligence: 40 Agility: 60 Luck: 25

I handed the card back to Luna and told her which class I wanted to choose.

"Then I would like to be an Adventurer."

"What??? Um... I am sorry, but could you please say that one more time?"

"I would like the basic class, Adventurer."

Luna suddenly grabbed me and began shaking me with a dumbfounded expression.

"No! With such incredible talent, why would you choose Adventurer?! Please reconsider."

I calmed Luna down as I spoke.

"Do not worry. I have thought it through."

I could understand why Luna was reacting this way.

In KonoSuba, the Adventurer class could learn every skill, but those skills were not particularly powerful. There was also a limit to how much one could grow, meaning the number of points available for raising skills was limited. So rather than wasting points on numerous skills, people believed the right way to develop was to choose an advanced class and focus on strengthening a few powerful skills.

But I had Game Life. I could learn skills using KonoSuba points and raise them with Game Life's Skill Enhancement.

Of course, I could not explain that reasoning to her.

"Whew~ All right. I will register you as an Adventurer. But if you change your mind, please come speak to me anytime. You can change classes!"

Luna sighed, seemingly disappointed by my choice.

"All right. If I change my mind, I will definitely come back."

"It is late, but welcome to the Adventurers Guild, Park Tae-jin. I look forward to seeing what you accomplish."

I received my card and found a seat near the reception desk.

'Are Kazuma and Aqua not here yet? Do not tell me they will not arrive until tomorrow?'

As I was thinking about this and that, a waitress from the restaurant approached me.

"Excuse me, would you like to order?"

"Huh? Ah! I will have fried toad and one Shuwa Shuwa, please."

Giant Toads were frog-type monsters. They might be frogs, but they were nothing to laugh at—their bodies were slightly larger than bulls. Their meat was tough, but it tasted good, so they were used as ingredients for gourmet dishes. That was why Giant Toad extermination requests were frequently posted on the adventurer board. As for Shuwa Shuwa, it was basically KonoSuba's refreshing beer. I had always wanted to try it at least once if I ever came to KonoSuba.

"Hey, hey, look over there. Is he not ridiculously handsome? I have never seen anyone like that in my life."

"I know, right? I wish I had a boyfriend like that~"

"But his clothes are kind of..."

The female adventurers had gathered together, squealing as they talked about me.

'Hey, hey, I can hear all of that!'

"Here are your fried toad and Shuwa Shuwa. Enjoy~"

Just then, my fried toad and Shuwa Shuwa were delivered to my table.

I paid, including a tip, and began eating with gusto.

The fried toad was like slightly tough fried chicken. Maybe it was because I had eaten nothing but hard jerky and emergency ration blocks in the bunker every day, and it had been so long since I had eaten a warm meal, but it tasted absolutely delicious.

As I finished the fried toad and drank my Shuwa Shuwa, I saw Kazuma and Aqua enter the guild.
