Chapter 32: He who Became She, Feeling Mindful (2)

"......Why... Why can't I stop thinking about that man?"

Katsuki Bakugo, who had recently transitioned from a 'he' to a 'she,' finished her shower and stepped out of the bathroom, pulling a bathrobe tight around her trembling heart.

"I still can’t get used to this..."

No matter how many times she looked in the mirror, looking at her own feminine body made her flush with embarrassment.

When she had gone to get fitted for feminine undergarments, and when she had to order a new female school uniform... the sheer awkwardness had been enough to make her want to explode. But now, she had to adapt. This was her reality.

"Oh, Katsuki~ Are you all finished with your bath?"

"Yeah... Mom."

"Look at you! My little cutie! Ever since you became a girl, you’ve become so polite! Good for you, you brat! Honestly, you should have been born a girl from the start!"

"Ow! Why did you hit me?!"

"That’s for calling your mother an 'Old Hag' all these years! Consider it a punishment, kid!"

"Ugh... sorry..."

Even if she had a hundred mouths, she had no excuse for her past behavior. Katsuki could only look down dejectedly and apologize. Masaru Bakugo, her father, tried to step in.

"N-now, Honey... Katsuki is clearly reflecting on her past, so maybe that’s enough..."

"You’re always so soft on the kid, that’s why she grew up so rotten!" Mitsuki barked at her husband. Masaru immediately wilted under the pressure.

"Sorry... it's my fault..." Katsuki whispered.

She felt a pang of guilt, fearing that her own existence was causing a rift between her parents. Masaru simply reached out and patted her head gently.

During dinner, Katsuki set her bowl down and carefully spoke up.

"Um... Mom, Dad..."

The Bakugo couple looked up from their meal, wondering what their daughter had to say. Katsuki’s next words nearly made them choke.

"I think... I’ve fallen in love with someone."

Mitsuki and Masaru stared in stunned silence, wondering if they had misheard her.

"I... I said I found someone I like... (//////////)"

Seeing her blush furiously and fidget like a proper young lady was a massive shock to their systems.

"Um... daughter? Is it a classmate? An upperclassman, maybe?"

"No... it’s a teacher. The assistant homeroom teacher for my class."

Masaru clutched his neck, his blood pressure spiking at the thought of a teacher-student romance. Mitsuki, however, looked fascinated. She leaned in, demanding to know how it happened. Katsuki began to ramble—praising how Michikatsu had saved her from the harasser, and how gallant and cool he looked when he ruthlessly cut down the villains who threatened them at the USJ.

Mitsuki grinned like a Cheshire cat, finding the whole thing thrilling. Masaru, meanwhile, looked conflicted.

"Heh~ so you’ve fallen for Mr. Tsugikuni, have you, Katsuki?"

"Yeah... When he saved me... he was just so... cool..."

"Oh my, oh my~! Look at you! Our daughter is actually having a romance! I knew it—daughters are way better than sons!"

"Katsuki is... Katsuki found a man?" Masaru muttered, still unable to wrap his head around the situation.

After dinner, Katsuki brushed her teeth and flopped onto her bed. She pulled out her phone and scrolled to the new entry in her contacts—the one she’d saved after the subway incident.

[Sensei ♥︎]

"He was so handsome... ♡"

Thinking back to that moment made her heart flutter all over again.

When she was a boy, she had dismissed him as a creepy "Eye-monster." But as a girl, being rescued by him felt entirely different. In her eyes, he was now a figure of absolute reliability and charisma.

"Momo and Himiko... why were they so kind to me? I said such horrible things about Sensei..."

The more she thought about her past actions as a boy, the more she cringed. It was impossible to find a single redeeming quality in her old personality. Faced with the crushing weight of her "dark history," she buried her face in her pillow.

"Stupid... Stupid, stupid, stupid!! Why was I like that?! Ugh..."

She had addressed the man she now loved with a rude, freakish nickname. She had made enemies of the two women who were clearly close to him.

Katsuki let out a long, heavy sigh.

"I finally found someone I love... I can’t be a fool and let him get away..."

Gripping her blanket tight, Katsuki resolved to atone for her past mistakes and find a way to confess her feelings.

"I love you... Sensei. ♡"

Katsuki Bakugo began to sink deeper and deeper into the marsh of affection—the sweet, inescapable swamp called love.
