Chapter 23: Combat Training (4)

"Yaomomo... and Tsugikuni... they’re on a whole different level. So this is what the top two scorers of the entrance exam look like?"

The students watching the live feed in the control room were left speechless by Momo and Himiko's overwhelming performance. It wasn't just that they had outpaced everyone during the PE tests; the way they were effortlessly toys with their opponents was staggering to witness.

"Young Yaoyorozu and Young Tsugikuni are indeed already within the professional orbit. Their skills are on par with active Heroes," All Might stated, nodding in approval as he watched the monitor.

The fact that they were Demons already placed them naturally above average humans, but these two were specifically 'Upper Rank'—the ones who had received the highest concentration of Michikatsu’s blood. Their power and speed were enough to rival the upper echelons of the Pro Hero rankings.

At All Might’s assessment, the students stared at the screens with renewed intensity. Shoko Todoroki, in particular, could not take her eyes off them.

.................

She had learned through Mina’s slip-up that they were Michikatsu’s disciples as well as his partners. Watching them, she felt a flicker of hope—wondering if she could achieve such heights herself. She resolved to seek out his teachings later.

"Kh... dammit..."

Bakugo lay on the floor, gasping and retching up bile. Momo stood over him, looking down with a weary sigh, her composure as elegant as ever.

"You certainly have grit. I’ll give you that much."

"Are you... mocking me, Ponytail!!"

"Not at all. I am sincerely impressed. Even though I only faced you with basic martial arts, you managed to endure for this long."

"Shut up... use your... full power!!!!"

"You are not yet worthy of witnessing my full strength. You must at least defeat me in a test of pure technique before you earn that right."

"Dammit... all..."

Thud.

Exhausted of every ounce of spite, Bakugo slumped forward and lost consciousness. Momo calmly began securing him with the capturing tape.

"I guess Kacchan lost... Yaoyorozu-san is amazing. To beat Kacchan like that..."

"Are you perhaps overestimating your friend a bit? Do you truly believe he is always meant to be at the top?" Himiko asked playfully.

"Well, he’s never actually lost until now."

"Hmm... then he’s simply the type who grew up as a 'big fish in a small pond.' Bullied classmates, beat up a few older kids, and thought the world was beneath him."

"Ahaha... I can't really argue with that..." Midoriya swallowed a bitter smile at Himiko’s sharp, accurate logic.

"Anyway, what will you do, Midoriya-kun? Will you surrender? Or would you like to keep trying?"

Midoriya looked at her relaxed posture and raised both hands in a gesture of peace.

"I surrender. As I am now, I see no path to victory against either of you... but I promise, I will surpass you one day."

"Hehe~ That’s the spirit! I like that drive in a person. Ah, but don't get the wrong idea! I’m completely devoted to my Brother, so a confession would be awkward."

"I have someone I already like, so please don't worry, Tsugikuni-san," Midoriya replied with a straight face.

Himiko pouted, finding his serious answer a bit dull, but she genuinely viewed Midoriya as a worthy comrade. He was polite, kind, and possessed a healthy sense of competitiveness—unlike Bakugo, whom she still categorized as a 'rude, oversized brat.'

—{“MATCH OVER!!! Hero Team! WINS!!!!!!”}

All Might’s announcement echoed through the speaker, confirming Momo and Himiko’s victory.

Once the training session ended, All Might gathered everyone to offer technical advice and professional feedback, acting as a true mentor to the aspiring Heroes.

"And with that, today's lesson is over!"

"He’s quite different from Mr. Aizawa, ribbit," Tsu remarked.

"Just as students have different personalities, teachers have their own pride and methods. UA's principle of 'Freedom' applies to the faculty too, just as Eraser Head said! Now, go straight to the locker rooms, change, and head back to class!"

With that final instruction, All Might dashed away at high speed.

"All Might-sensei... he’s in an awful hurry."

"Probably busy with Pro work."

"It must be tough balancing both jobs..."

The students didn't think much of it, but Midoriya watched the direction All Might had disappeared. He noticed faint wisps of steam rising into the air—a clear sign that All Might’s three-hour limit was nearly exhausted.

"Hey, Deku! What are you staring at?! Let's go!"

"Oh, right, Kacchan."

Midoriya headed toward the locker room, following Bakugo—who had been in a foul mood ever since waking up from his knockout. Midoriya resolved to visit All Might in his office later.
