Chapter 40: A Brief Rest

“If I just had one weapon right now... just one good weapon.”

“Haruta, if you keep saying you’re going to go get some weapon or another, you’re really going to die.”

“No... I mean, just a single sword with a little romance to it.”

“No way!”

“Eep...”

“There are plenty of better places to go, even if you do have to leave.”

“For example?”

“Hmm... just don’t go.”

“That’s way too harsh.”

“Haha... well, anyway, I have to go back to the Remedial Knights and take over for Sensei.”

“Yeah... I’ll stay quiet today and not cause any trouble.”

“Right. Let’s keep things a little quiet today.”

“Yes...”

Haruta felt like he had nothing to do, so he decided to take a short break.

“...Sensei probably isn’t at Schale anymore anyway...”

Haruta thought about Millennium for a moment and decided to go out for a visit.

“...This might be fun.”

Haruta moved to Millennium’s Game Development Department.

Crash!

“What! Big sister!”

“What is that?”

“It’s a monster invasion event! Everyone, get ready!”

“What are you talking about?”

Haruta looked at the Game Development Department students standing in front of him with weapons drawn, all staring at him.

“Waaah! It’s the max-level Demon King!”

“Aris, have you been doing well?”

“Yes! Aris has been happily playing games with her companions!”

“Haha, good.”

When Haruta looked behind her, he saw Momoi, Midori, and Yuzu staring at him in fear.

“...Aris. Do you think I’m a bad person?”

“...No! The Demon King is... the person who reached out to me when I was struggling and sad!”

“That’s what she says.”

The girls who had been quietly wary of Haruta from behind Aris slowly stepped forward.

“Well... girls, let me play too.”

“Huh?”

“Eh?”

“What?”

“Why are you all acting like that? I just want to have some fun too.”

“No... it just feels off somehow.”

“Seriously, are you trying to make me mad?”

“Ooh! Leave the games to me!”

Haruta didn’t know what games they had here, and he was curious, so he asked the Game Development Department girls to let him join in and played a few rounds.

“...What is this? Why is Metal Gear Solid here?”

After playing a few familiar games, I came out to Millennium’s open grounds.

“Hmm... I’ve got nowhere to go, and I’m bored...”

So I decided to tear open space and go to Gehenna for a bit.

Crash!

“Oh, Gehenna. It’s been a while.”

Gehenna’s school buildings were full of structures that somehow reminded me of red flags.

“...Should I go see Hina?”

With that thought, he headed to the Gehenna Prefect Team and arrived at the entrance.

Creak...

“Hello. Is anyone here?”

“Huh? You are?!”

“No, why do your eyes go straight to murder every time you see me?”

“No! As a member of the Gehenna Prefect Team, your presence here is the problem!”

“Is that so? Amau?”

“No! As a member of the Prefect Team, your presence here is the problem!”

“Why? I’m a perfectly normal person.”

“You’re Kivotos’ worst criminal!”

“That damn worst criminal thing again.”

“Anyway, you can’t see the president!”

“I’m going in.”

Haruta remembered the room Hina had been in and punched the air.

Crash!

“Haruta!”

Hina ran over and hugged him the moment she saw him.

“Hi, Hina.”

“Mm...”

Hina clung to him and didn’t seem like she was going to let go.

“Good to see you, Hina.”

After a moment, Hina pulled back slightly, her face red.

“I had no idea Hina was the type to take the lead like this.”

“Ugh... Haruta, honestly...”

“So what brought you here?”

“Hmm... I just wanted to hang out with Hina?”

“I want to have fun too... but there’s work...”

“Hina, if it’s just a few delinquents, I can beat them for you. How about it?”

“No... you don’t need to force yourself to help.”

“I’ll just think of it as a Prefect Team experience.”

“Then...”

Haruta took out a gun after a long time.

The newly acquired BFG 9000 was absurdly huge and massive.

“Haruta? Where did you get a gun like that?”

“Oh, someone gave it to me.”

“Huh... that doesn’t seem like a gun that size would fit.”

Honestly, that was fair. The gun was almost as big as Hina herself.

“...Well, at least as long as nobody dies, isn’t that fine?”

“...That doesn’t sound like a weapon anymore...”

“Come on, there’s no way it’ll kill anyone, right?”

“Fine... try using it once.”

“Yay!”

Not long after, Haruta and Hina received a report that the Hot Springs Development Department was trying to start blasting work again, so they rushed out.

“Oh... Hina, I probably shouldn’t use this gun there, right?”

“Yeah... if that thing goes off, it’ll be a real disaster.”

“Hey! Hot Springs Development Department! If you back off now, there won’t be any bloodshed!”

“You think I’d be scared of that?”

Fwoosh!

Kaak!

Clang!

Three sword sounds rang out, and the moment everyone blinked, the fifteen members of the Hot Springs Development Department in front of them had collapsed.

“...But we still need the hot springs!”

Shhk...

When the sound of a blade being drawn rang out, Kasumi flinched slightly.

“I’ll give you a chance. Want to get hit and leave, or just leave?”

“...We need the hot springs!”

Thud!Boom!

“Eek.”

“All right! Situation over!”

“Haruta... you’re really... amazing...”

“If anything starts getting on your nerves from now on, tell me. I’ll get rid of all of it.”

“No! There’s no need to go that far...”

“Haha! I’m kidding.”

“Yeah... even saying it is enough, so thanks.”

“Then let’s head back.”

Haruta took Hina and returned.

“Why does the Gehenna Prefect Team have more work than Schale?”

“Hmm... maybe because there are just so many delinquents?”

“Could be...”

“But Haruta, doesn’t Schale have less work than this? I heard it’s no joke there either...”

“No matter how bad it is, it’s still not...”

By the time Haruta and Hina had finished almost everything, it was already 9:56.

“...What is this? It feels like time flew by...”

“Mm... I’m tired...”

“Huh? Hina?”

Hina was sitting at her desk, almost on the verge of collapsing. She looked so exhausted that it seemed like she might just bury her head in the desk and fall asleep any second.

If I just leave here, I really will be trash.

“Hina? You can’t sleep here.”

“Mm... Haruta...”

“Are you already asleep...?”

Thinking of Hina’s home, Haruta carefully moved so he wouldn’t wake her, then went and brought back her pajamas from her room.

“...Why are even her pajamas this cute?”

Seeing Hina already completely knocked out made her look unbearably worn out.

“...This really doesn’t seem right.”

“Haruta... I love you...”

“...Was I really someone who had this many women around me?”

As expected, life really is all about the face.

He carried Hina to the bed, covered her with a blanket, and came back out.

“...The sky feels kind of weird today.”

Before moving through space again, Haruta walked around for a bit and looked at Gehenna’s night streets.

Gehenna’s roads had a certain German street feel to them, which made them interesting to look at.

Then he simply returned to Schale.

“...Gehenna was kind of a new kind of fun.”

“Hee... it’s been a while since Haruta said something was fun.”

“Was it? Well, good is good, right?”

“Exactly. At least take it easy today.”

“Yeah, let’s just think of it as taking a day off.”

“I should stop blocking Seia from seeing me too.”

Haruta withdrew the power that had been preventing Seia from seeing the future dreams he was creating.

“...Somehow today feels... tiiired...”

Thud!

“Haah... I told you to sleep in your room, how many times have I—huh?”

There was a bad-looking message on his phone.

“...What is this?”
