“Ah... but since this is Millennium, the more I think about smashing it, the more fun it gets...”
Haruta was wrecking everything he could see with the weapons and guns he had brought along.
“Aah! Haruta!!! Why are you here?!”
“Oh! Yuuka! This is way more fun than I expected! Want to join in?”
“What are you talking about?! And surrender right now!!!”
“What?! I can’t hear you over the explosions!!!”
“Ughhh!!! Stop it already!”
“Don’t worry about it!?!? Thanks!!!”
Haruta put on the best act he could of not hearing her, all while setting off bombs with the kind of force that looked ready to tear the building apart.
“Hahaha!!!”
Boom
“Wow... Sensei... what is that person?”
“Ah... ahaha...”
“Aris! That person over there looks like a Demon King!!”
“Big sis... is that even a person?”
“No... maybe?”
“Uu...”
And so the Game Development Department’s admiration burst out, and Haruta enjoyed every second of it.
“Good. Then let’s get Veritas started too.”
With Sensei’s order, things moved on.
Not long after—
Bang!Thud
“Ow, ow...”
“Target acquired.”
“Tch. Karin... was it?”
Bang!Thud
“Hey!!! Karin!!! Can you hear me?!!!”
Haruta shouted as loudly as he could.
“I’m going to!!! Smash this building!!! So don’t shoot!!!”
Bang!Thud
“Haa... threats don’t work, huh...”
Rat-tat-tat
“?”
Haruta instinctively turned his head, and there stood Asuna.
“Oh! You’re Asuna, right?”
“Yep! This is a fresh way to meet!!”
“Yeah! Then let’s enjoy this to the fullest!!!”
“Yeah!!”
Rat-tat-tat!!
“Yeah! Guns are great too! Besides, when I charge in, almost none of my bullets hit me.”
“Then!!”
Haruta made a gun vanish into the air, and Asuna watched it with obvious curiosity.
“Oh!? You’re curious too?”
“Yep! Your hand just went into the air all of a sudden!”
“Right! Then let’s play some more!!!”
Haruta drew two swords and pointed them at Asuna.
“Wahaha!! Swords? Cool!!!”
“You know your stuff, huh?! Good! Let’s start again!!”
Haruta tensed his arms, and a red color spread over his arms and torso.
Clang!
“Wahahaha! Amazing!!”
“You’re stronger than I expected, too?”
When one blow wasn’t enough, Haruta adjusted his grip on the sword and looked at Asuna again.
“So... Asuna... was it?”
“Yep! Ichinose Asuna!”
“Right... then this is round three!”
Bang!
Screeeech!
He cut the bullet in half with his sword, splitting it cleanly into two.
“How’s that?”
“Waaah!! Amazing!!”
As soon as Haruta finished speaking, he closed the distance with his sword.
“Then get some sleep for a little while!”
Thwack!
“Uh... ugh...”
Haruta struck Asuna hard at the back of the neck at high speed. The impact knocked her out cold.
“...Well, if I did that without even cutting her with the sword, I guess that’s good enough.”
Haruta looked at the sword, then reached out into the air again to pull out a gun.
“Hey. Who the hell are you?”
“Huh? You are...?”
“What? You know me?”
“Of course. The strongest in Millennium, and the vice chief of C&C, Mikamo Neru, right?”
“Well... I didn’t know I was that famous... So who are you?”
“Me? You don’t know me?”
“I can’t tell anything if I can’t see your face.”
“Fair enough.”
Haruta stepped out into the corridor, where the lights had been completely blown out in the fierce battle, leaving only moonlight spilling in.
“...Heh. Looks like I’ll finally get a proper fight after a while.”
“You are!”
“Well... just a normal prisoner, I guess?”
“Hahaha! Yeah, I’ve wanted to fight you someday!”
Neru quickly raised her akimbo guns to his head.
“Call sign Double O! Engagement start!!”
“Haa... fine! Then I’ll go too?”
Haruta tossed aside his gun and immediately drew his sword.
“Huh? A sword? With that, you think you can beat me—”
Boom!
Haruta’s kick slammed straight into Neru.
“How’s that!”
Neru blocked it, but the blow was so strong it left a bruise on her arm.
“Yeah! That’s the kind of thing I can enjoy!”
“Bring it on!”
“You got it!”
Whoosh!
A slash flew toward Neru’s head.
Swoosh!
Clang!
“Oh? You blocked it?”
Thud!
“Yeah... I figured someone like you, Neru, would be plenty fun.”
“Hah? Then are you saying the others weren’t fun?”
“Well, Asuna fought pretty well in her own way... but you seem a little stronger.”
“Well... the title of strongest in Millennium isn’t just for show—no, wait! Get back in here!!”
Whoooosh—BOOM!
“I told you not to throw weird stuff at me! Just come in already!!”
“Fine. As you wish!”
Haruta rushed in to close the distance and settle it up close.
“Hah... you’re planning to take me on at close range?”
“Yeah! My weapon’s a close-range one anyway, so let’s do this!!!”
The moment Haruta closed in, Neru moved to wrap a chain around his leg and trip him.
Clang!
The chain snapped. In a single blow, that hard steel chain was cut clean through by one sword strike.
“Yeah! Let’s have some fun for once!!”
Haruta tried to press in quickly, but Neru’s akimbo guns roared, keeping him from getting any closer.
“...Haa. Fine, then I’ll just take the hits.”
Haruta came forward with his sword, stepping out openly without using cover.
“You... I don’t know what you’re planning, but I won’t forgive you if you just let me win!”
Ratatatatat!
The akimbo guns spat even more bullets than before, pouring them down on Haruta.
“Tch... you were a pretty interesting one.”
Neru turned to leave, planning to pick up Asuna and head back.
Ssshhh...
“Ghk!?”
In that instant, an overwhelming killing intent burst out, and Neru’s body froze for a split second. When a person feels absolute terror, their body locks up. This was exactly that kind of moment.
“...Yeah... it’d be a shame if it ended here!!”
Neru readjusted her guns and stared at Haruta again.
“Hahaha! Yeah, you felt it too!!!”
In Haruta’s hand was a strange weapon that looked like several swords had been fused together.
It was one sword, and yet it clearly felt like three swords had been combined into one.
“This is... going to hurt a little.”
Up until now, Haruta had fought the students of Kivotos with at least a sliver of guilt—wondering if they might die from a sword wound, or get hurt. Today, that rule was broken.
Swaaish! Click.
A crisp, bright sound cut through the air. The moment the sword was sheathed, the entire terrain ahead was devastated, and one whole floor of the Millennium building was sliced away.
“You... are you even human?”
“Yeah! I’m the kind of person who enjoys fighting just like you do!!”
For the first time in a while, Haruta fully revealed his wings and changed the shape of his halo, deciding to test the power he had once possessed.
“...Five years ago... I tried to use this one last time... but there just wasn’t anyone worth using it on...”
At those words, Neru instinctively understood. If she didn’t go all out, she would die.
Clang! Clink!
The chains collided with a loud crash. Like a warrior striking a shield before going to war, Neru steeled herself.
“Good! Then round three starts now!!!”
