Chapter 36: Side Story: Back to My Hometown 2

“This... if I do it right?”

Haruta didn’t know whether his guess would become reality, but he had to try first.

“Let’s open it.”

After a moment of hesitation, Haruta thought of a quiet rural place.

“...All right, let’s give it a shot.”

Crash!

Once again, space split apart and a portal connected.

“...Huh?”

The place the portal opened to was an area with hardly anyone around.

“...But can I actually go back to the original world?”

Haruta gathered his thoughts, then asked Akashi about the line connecting him to his original Kivotos world. After getting an answer, he returned to Earth.

“...I really can’t believe this worked...”

He had never imagined it, but maybe this time he could afford to take a one-day trip by himself.

“...Hold on... but I don’t even have an ID right now. Even if I did, I’m underage... and I don’t have any money either. Haa... can I even enjoy this properly?”

Haruta thought for a while, then decided to try something he had always wanted to do.

“...Hmm... now that I’m on Earth... ah!”

Haruta remembered a high school friend from before he died, opened space again, and went to his own house.

“...Ah... here.”

There was no trash in Haruta’s house. But insects had moved in, and rats and cockroaches were throwing a party.

“...I really did think about burning it down...”

Haruta stepped outside first and asked Akashi how much time had passed.

“Hmm... Earth’s time isn’t linked to Kivotos, and for Haruta, it’d be better to say you came to the past when you arrived in Kivotos.”

“Oh. Thanks.”

Haruta checked the date on Earth.

“20XX, X month X day?”

He remembered the day he died, but it was already a week past that date.

“...That’s a little...”

Haruta figured his body had probably been dumped somewhere, or maybe someone had gotten rid of it. He gave up on the thought.

“...Haa...”

Then he thought of his friend.

“...I wonder how Juwan’s doing?”

Kim Juwan, the only friend he had ever been close to.

The only friend from his previous life.

“...Well, I don’t really feel anything about it anymore.”

With that thought, he returned to Kivotos.

Crash!

“Haa... something’s pissing me off—”

“Haruta?”

“Huh...?”

“What are you doing right now?”

It was Hina. He had completely forgotten that Hina was on duty at Schale today.

“No... I mean, that is...”
