Chapter 4: The False God

On the road to Gehenna, I got lost in Abydos’s desert for a month.

“Damn it!”

The strange thing was that I was perfectly fine even without water or food.

“No, what the hell is this compass? Haa... I can’t even read a map, and I can’t even use a compa—”

He looked down at the broken compass in his arms and flung it to the ground.

“Haa... I’m seriously screwed.”

The ground split open, and a sudden vortex formed in the earth.

“?”

Before long, a giant mechanical serpent slowly emerged, white with yellow stripes running across it.

“You fucking insane Black Suit bastard—”

He knew exactly what it was. It was Binah, a Total Assault boss from Blue Archive.

And having struggled against it in Total Assault before, the moment he saw Binah, a fury rose from deep in his core.

“Wait, hold on. If I kill that thing, does Yume come back too?”

In Blue Archive, Yume is said to have died after getting stranded. But since all that was known was that she had been stranded, and nobody knew what happened during that time, there was still a chance.

After finishing his thought, he once again pulled a sword from the depths of his unconsciousness and took out two gold-plated Desert Eagles he had stolen from the Black Market.

“You know what? My favorite Marvel character in my past life was Deadpool!”

How crazy did a person have to be to talk to an animal that couldn’t even answer?

“Hmm... I still don’t know how to contain mystery...”

Then Binah struck first with its tail.

“You’re the one who threw the first punch?”

Fwoosh!

The wind split apart, and a slash shot toward Binah and struck it.

KWA-BOOM

He was sure it had been cut in half, and was about to turn away and leave. Then he saw red light behind him.

“Ah, right... shit, I’m—”

And then the blazing red light slammed straight into Haruta’s entire body.

With power that was almost a one-hit kill, Binah was certain of victory as well. Even so, the feeling that Decagrammaton had nearly died made Binah’s thought process arrive at a clear conclusion: kill him.

Before long, several missiles came flying in and concentrated on one spot.

KWA-KWA-KABOOM

Binah was certain he was dead. No, that he’d been reduced to ash and blown away entirely. With that certainty, Binah turned around and tried to sink back into the ground.

Tap-tat-tat

Along with the sound of footsteps, Haruta leaped up and slammed Binah’s head with a longsword over a meter long. Then, to make absolutely sure it was dead, he drew the original sword again and shoved it into Binah’s eye, twisting it hard.

“How’s that!!!!! Does it hurt?!”

“Kyaaaah!!”

Binah roared so loudly it seemed to tear the air itself, then tried to drag Haruta into the sand.

“Like hell I’ll let you!!!!”

Haruta wasn’t about to let that happen. Red light once again wrapped around his body, and the shape of a demon manifested.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

As if determined to see this through to the end, he was mercilessly pulverizing Binah’s entire body.

Before long, Binah’s head exploded, and the machine stopped functioning.

“Heh... what the hell kind of insane power is that...”

He pulled the over-one-meter-long greatsword out of Binah’s head and put it back into the depths of his unconsciousness.

“No, seriously, that storage function is ridiculous. Blue Archive shouldn’t have anything like this.”

After thinking about it for a moment, he decided it must be his unique ability and, feeling pleased, started walking toward Gehenna again.

---------------------------------------------

“Haa... hahahaha...”

At last, he arrived in Gehenna, looking absolutely miserable.

“Man, I really need a shower. And new clothes.”

He had more money than he knew what to do with, so it hadn’t mattered much before. But now it was important, and he was practically starving to death, so he headed for a nearby convenience store.

“Damn, I really thought I was gonna die of hunger.”

He devoured snacks, drinks, and a convenience-store lunch box, then wiped his mouth and bought one last drink. He held it in his mouth for a moment while checking his phone as he came back out.

“...There’s only one hotel nearby?”

Only then did he realize Gehenna didn’t have many places to stay.

“Hah, damn it. At least Mika’s place let me sleep properly.”

Thinking of Mika’s parents again, he could tell for sure that he had been thrown away after being used.

Angrily, he clenched his teeth. Blood welled up from his crushed gums, but for some reason, he barely felt any pain.

“So I don’t even feel pain properly anymore.”

After a brief lament over his lot in life, he realized that while sleeping in some abandoned house in Abydos might have been fine, he did have money now, so sleeping like that would be a little much.

“Haa... should I just go to that hotel first?”

---------------------------------------------

“Welcome!”

A robot clerk greeted him as he went inside.

“How much is your most expensive room?”

“It is 100,000 yen per night!”

Did I hear that wrong? Or is this the Black Market? He was definitely told it was 100,000 yen a night.

“Haa... yeah, sure. Give me the room key.”

“Thank you for using our hotel!”

It was probably a rip-off. But if that was the case, couldn’t he just smash everything on the way out?

Haruta briefly considered that rational option, then remembered that if he committed any more crimes here, there would be no going back.

---------------------------------------------------------------

The room was larger than he expected.

“It’s cleaner than I thought inside.”

He muttered something that sounded vaguely familiar and organized his guns, ammunition, and other weapons.

“These two swords, and this is... a hammer?”

He had seen a similar hammer in the game from his past life. It definitely resembled Reinhardt’s hammer.

“No way I can actually hold and swing this, right?”

He went into the bathroom for a moment to wipe the blood from his hands and head.

“Jesus, fuck, you scared me!”

In the mirror was a handsome black-haired boy with red eyes, and his halo had changed into a different, unusual shape.

“Huh...”

He grinned for a moment and used the bathroom tools to slick his hair straight back.

“Huh... am I a model or something?”

When he looked at his face in admiration, an eleven-year-old kid stood there with a face twice as handsome as before—no, more than that.

At this point, if he got arrested by the Public Safety Bureau, maybe he could just seduce his way out.

That was how ridiculously good-looking he was.

“But why is the halo like this too?”

The halo changed to a different light than before, but only one side burned red. Seeing that, he panicked and fell over.

At that moment, the ground split apart and a shockwave rippled out.

“??? Hey, wait, what—”

It was such a powerful force that he himself called it his strongest attack.

If just falling over produced this much power, then what would happen if he struck with the actual intent to kill?

“I should grab a few punks later and test it out.”

With that thought, he remembered why he had come to Gehenna in the first place.

“Right. If my base nature is a demon, then I should just go to Gehenna.”

And his second goal was this: eventually, he would end up fighting Gehenna anyway. Sooner or later, he’d run into the Gehenna Prefect Team, and if that happened, he should make friends with them first.

Then he could avoid a full-scale conflict.

“All right, then I need to find Sorasaki Hina... but where does she live?”

Yes, he knew one thing but not the other.

After that, he went out for a bit to buy clothes.

---------------------------------------------------

“Haa... there’s nothing good to wear.”

In the end, he bought a completely black hoodie and black shorts, then put them on and came back out.

Now he just had to find Sorasaki Hina. But was that really going to be easy?

“? Wait, hold on, is that—”

He spotted Hina with two adults.

“Wait, but if I want to get close to Hina, don’t I need to enter the same academy first...”

Then he noticed a small tag on Hina’s clothes with her age written on it.

“Eleven... so she’s the same age as me right now?”

That made things easy. He could secretly follow Hina, find out which academy she attended, and slowly build a connection from there.

And things were easy.

-------------------------------------------

“Gehenna Elementary School...”

Getting in was easy. He contacted a hacker he had gotten friendly with in the Black Market and paid him to forge a fake student ID. It had cost him a week, but that was fine.

“Heh heh heh. Now I’m at the same school as my favorite character... no, that sounds way too perverted, doesn’t it?”

Yes, before he died, his favorite Blue Archive character had been Hina.

“Haa... enrolling in Gehenna, huh... this might be a little tough.”

“Binah has been destroyed, Black Suit.”

“I am well aware, Maestro.”

“Then shouldn’t you have brought that person to us?”

“I currently lack the power to control him. Especially since he is a god far above Horus, the strongest Mystery.”

“Then what is that person’s halo?”

“There are two hypotheses. It may be both.”

“Could the halo be based on two motifs?”

“Do you remember the file I showed you before?”

“Ah, you mean the experiment that instilled fear into a child? Of course I remember. But didn’t you say that experiment failed?”

“Could it be? Was the experiment not a failure? Then the one who endured the fear created by my Mimesis is that child?!”

“Correct, Maestro.”

“Once again, show us that power, false god.”
