Something fell onto my car.
Most likely, it was either a person
or trash someone had thrown away.
I had to check,
so I got out of the car and climbed up.
There was a woman with a gunshot wound to the head.
She seemed to still be breathing.
Using the airhypo in my car,
I administered first aid
and ignored the speed limit entirely,
driving like hell toward Little China
in Watson,
headed for Viktor's clinic.
Bang! Bang!
When I pounded violently
on the door to his clinic, it opened.
Viktor saw the woman I had brought in,
immediately laid her on the operating table, and began surgery.
How many hours had passed?
Once the operation was over, Viktor
handed me a coffee and spoke.
"You must've been in one hell of a hurry."
"I can pay whatever it costs."
"Your girlfriend? Or family?"
"She's the woman who fell onto my car today."
"Ha! You went this far for a woman you'd never even met?"
"It's not like that, Viktor."
"Sure. If you say it isn't, it isn't."
Judging by Viktor's expression,
he seemed completely mistaken about something.
There was no point correcting him.
In times like this, it was easier to change the subject.
"Is this your first time seeing me in person?"
"We've only ever talked over the phone. But
what brings you all the way down here?"
"Work. I'm here because of work."
"What kind of work could bring you personally
all the way out here?"
"Viktor, that's pointless curiosity."
"All right. I won't pry any further."
"More importantly, when will she wake up?"
"At the earliest, three days. At the latest, within four,
she should wake up perfectly fine."
"Is that so? Let me know when she wakes up."
"Leaving already?"
"Things got a little tangled up, so I think I'll have to write a rather long report."
"Is that right? Get home safe."
Leaving the woman at Viktor's clinic,
I returned to my place in Heywood.
I thought today, at least,
would pass by comfortably enough.
But then a person suddenly fell out of the sky,
and didn't the person who fell seem familiar?
One way or another, it had been a turbulent end to the day.

Three days had already passed since I came to Night City.
I had adapted to this place to some extent by now.
Viktor had contacted me,
and I was on my way to his clinic.
After spending three days trying to remember
the woman who had fallen onto my car,
I finally recalled who she was.
Sasha Yakovleva.
Someone who was already dead in the original story,
and the Edgerunners crew's netrunner.
She was the woman I had taken
to Viktor's clinic three days ago, and
Bang!
the reason I was being attacked right now.
They probably mistook me
for someone who had kidnapped her.
I should... explain myself.
Screeech!
I slammed on the brakes and prepared to get out.
No need to wear the mask.
"I surrender! Let's talk for a minute so I can explain!"
Bang!
"Sorry, couldn't hear you."
"That's fine. Who's the leader here?"
"Me."
"I'm Kangal. Kangal Spitz."
"Maine."
A massive man with Gorilla Arms implanted.
Maine, the leader of the Edgerunners, stood before me.
"First off, I'm not a kidnapper.
If anything, I saved her life."
Ah, no. In Night City,
that would only make me sound more suspicious.
"If you doubt me, come with me.
She should be awake by now."
"Then can we ride with you?"
"Of course you can."
For the moment, I had put out the immediate fire.
We just had to go to Viktor's clinic
and clear up this misunderstanding with them.
Kiwi sat in the passenger seat.
Rebecca sat on the bench seat.
Maine, Dorio, and Pilar took the second row.
That made five people total
riding in my car as we headed for Viktor's clinic.
"Damn, this is a nice car~"
"Ooh! This body looks like it's made from that
new material that just came out!"
"Look at these guns. This is insane!!"
"The ride is no joke."
With the excited admiration of the boisterous siblings
and the exclamations of the rest of the crew as background music,
I drove, and we reached Viktor's clinic in no time.
"Viktor! Open the door!"
Bam!! Bang! Bang!
I knocked like I meant to break the door down,
and Viktor opened it himself.
"Stop knocking. You're going to break the door.
Who are the people behind you?"
"They're her crew."
"Then hurry up and come in."
Viktor went into the clinic first.
I led the Edgerunners crew behind me
inside the clinic.
Viktor was already seated, watching
the boxing match from the other day.
"Where's the woman?"
"Over there on the bed. She'll probably wake up soon."
Where he pointed,
there was a folding cot,
and lying on it was Sasha Yakovleva,
bandages wrapped around her head, arms, and legs.
"Sasha..."
The Edgerunners crew
looked at the sleeping Sasha.
"You said she'd wake up soon?"
"Yeah. She'll wake up soon."
In truth, Sasha Yakovleva
was already awake.
Her breathing was irregular,
and the corners of her mouth were twitching faintly.
"Ahem! Sorry for misunderstanding you."
"It's fine. I didn't save her for free, either."
At my added remark, bewilderment appeared
on the faces of the Edgerunners crew.
"My car got scratched, you see.
The repair bill is about 8.8 million eddies."
"What?!"
"Finally! You're awake, debtor."
You need to pay me back.
