Chapter 10: The City's Strongest Fixer (Side Story 1)

Gebura closed her book and spoke in a low voice.

"Hey."

In the library's characteristically silent atmosphere,

Roland, who had been reclining against the sofa, casually raised a hand.

"Who's the strongest?"

Roland immediately answered with a smile.

"Obviously, the person right in front of me."

"Don't talk nonsense."

Gebura frowned.

"I'm talking about the City right now. Which Fixer is the strongest?"

"Hmm..."

Resting his chin on his hand, Roland looked up at the ceiling.

"Unlike in the old days, there isn't any consensus on that... Some say the Fixer of the Great Lake, others say Hagen, Ungeom, Sieg, Ganryu, Athos, Jade Qilin, or the new Black... And then there are plenty of formidable guys, even bastards like Rinaldo. I've only met a few of them myself... and there are plenty whose reputations are nothing but rumors."

He let out a short laugh.

"People even get into brawls at bars over this topic, you know? And if you include people from other organizations or Wings, it never ends."

Gebura scoffed.

"Well, it was the same in my day. I just happened to be excessively embellished."

"Was that so?"

Roland smiled faintly.

"From what I saw firsthand this time, it didn't seem exaggerated at all."

Clicking her tongue, Gebura spoke.

"Then let me ask it differently. Who do you think is the most dangerous?"

"My vote goes to the Fixer known as the Blue Mad Dragon."

"Blue... Did he receive a Color?"

"He nearly did. No, actually, it was practically confirmed. According to a friend who was in the Hana Association, that was the epithet they had settled on, and the review was nearly complete too. Of course, after that incident, he was completely broken and word of him ceased, but before then, he was a pretty cheerful, good guy..."

"He's a truly unfortunate fellow... It was his fault, but he showed just how thoroughly a Wing could destroy a single Fixer Office. Of course, because of that, the Wing itself was driven to the brink of collapse. He made the Wings clearly understand what happens when a Color goes mad, so our work became easier too."

"By the way, I didn't think you cared about rankings like this. That's surprising."

"...I've come to view the City from farther away than before, so I was simply curious."
