Chapter 16: They Truly Are Formidable Enemies.

We fought our way through every daemon blocking our path and advanced toward Lion's Gate.

Boom!!

Kaboom!!!

Crushed beneath overwhelming mass, the daemons' battle line began to dissolve into chaos.

The devastating offensive that began from the rear of the daemon horde delayed their reinforcements, and as the daemons before them fell into disarray, Lion's Gate's defenders seized the opportunity to press their attack.

Before them stood several thousand transhuman warriors, including Custodian Guards, Grey Knights, and even Roboute Guilliman; behind them stood three Imperial Knights.

Assaulted from both front and rear, the daemons gave voice to their endless fury and began charging recklessly.

But the five Bloodthirsters on the battlefield acting without restraint were no different from runaway locomotives.

Countless Marines fell before them, while several exceptional warriors stepped forward to halt them.

However...

"They are only watching what is in front of them?"

Crunch!

That was right. Rather than watching their rear, the Bloodthirsters had focused their attention on the prey before their eyes.

They must have thought that with thousands of daemons behind them, even if those daemons went berserk, a mere three Knights would be unable to withstand them.

But what could they do about it?

Vwoooong!!!!

"We are not a force that can be dismissed as 'mere.'"

With Tess and Erin leading the way, we tore through the daemon tide in an instant and slew two Great Daemons in a single strike.

Booom!!!

"How dare you, mortals!!!"

As two Bloodthirsters were struck down in an instant, another Great Daemon immediately charged at Tess.

But Tess, an experienced knight blessed with outstanding talent, instead rammed the Great Daemon with his Knight.

"?!!!"

Knocked back by the impact, the Great Daemon spread its wings and tried to charge again, only to find Erin's bolt cannon waiting directly behind it.

Tat-tat-tat-tat!

"Purge complete."

The remaining Bloodthirsters were being engaged by the Grey Knights, the Custodian Guard, and Roboute Guilliman.

Of course, there was a vast disparity between their martial strength and ours, so—Roboute excepted—they were barely holding on. Unlike us, they would perish if the daemon tide swallowed them up, which made their struggle all the harsher.

"Theo, we will go assist the Space Marines. You shake up the daemon tide."

"I will."

With that, I aimed the gatling cannon mounted on my left side and the battle cannon newly fitted after my decisive battle with Magnus at the daemons.

Shock and awe, you little bastards!!!

Oh, ancestors.

**

While Yiseol held back the daemons head-on, Erin and Tess were helping the Grey Knights, Custodes, and Astartes fight the Bloodthirsters.

"As expected... a Great Daemon that is not caught off guard is powerful."

Perhaps because three Bloodthirsters had been taken down in an instant by the ambush earlier, the remaining Bloodthirsters were wary of the Knights.

Consequently, the Great Daemons, raging even as they fought defensively, were difficult for even Erin and Tess to withstand. Had the Astartes fighting alongside them not been there, they would have fallen before long.

But that also meant that, because the Astartes were there, they could endure.

"Keep pressing them!!"

The knights did not miss the openings created by countless brave men, warriors, and heroes sacrificing their own bodies.

Vwoooong!!!

"Fall, daemon!!"

Tess's reaper chainsword pierced the Great Daemon's head and began grinding through its body.

"This cannot be!! Kuaaaagh!!!!!"

The Great Daemon's mournful cry ended within seconds. Tess's chainsword continued downward, splitting its body in two.

"Erin! This side is finished. How is yours?"

"Ah, I have just finished as well."

When Tess turned around, Erin had impaled a Great Daemon upon the tip of her blade. She drove it into the ground and left the Marines to finish it off.

"Doesn't it remind you of old times? Marshmallows, I think? When we roasted the food the village gave us."

"Save the reminiscing for later. Once that daemon dissipates, come deal with the other daemons immediately."

"Yes, I will."

Having said that, Tess moved to help Theo, while Erin watched the Great Daemon dissipate. Once it was gone, she turned her head behind her.

So that is Roboute Guilliman... a Primarch, the Emperor's son.

What caught her eye was Roboute Guilliman, beheading a Bloodthirster and cutting down daemons with his flaming sword.

He does fight spectacularly, befitting a figure from legend, but my little brother is still far cooler.

No, she had just slain a Great Daemon and had no interest in it at all?

Did she perhaps think love was more important than honor?

Erin Barbab, hurry and slay the daemons. Help him and make an impression.

"Yes, I should."

Erin headed toward Theo and Tess together with her Knight, Malitia.

"I have finished over there."

"Good. You will handle the daemons coming in from the left."

Erin accepted Tess's instruction. In her heart, she wanted to fight at Theo's side, but she had long passed the age when she could act spoiled.

Thus, Erin began purging the oncoming daemons alongside the Astartes.

With all the Bloodthirsters dealt with, all that remained was the purging of the daemons—and that, too, would soon be over.
