“Th-this is bad...!”
Midoriya was drenched in sweat as he realized the state of his own body.
It had been fine when his body moved on its own and he used [One For All] again to save the brown-haired girl, but the price was enormous.
His right leg had fractured when he jumped, and his right arm had fractured when he struck the virtual villain.
At least, just before the fall, the brown-haired girl had saved him so he could land safely. But now Midoriya only had one arm and one leg left that he could still use.
“N-no...! I can still... I can still do this...!!!”
Crack! Crack-crack!
Suppressing the horrifying sounds and pain coming from his broken limbs with nothing but adrenaline, Midoriya somehow forced himself up on his left leg.
“I’m short on points...! I only have 32 points...!!”
No matter how he looked at it, his poor score made passing impossible, so Midoriya tried to stand while forcing the pain down with everything he had.
But then.
“Teeeest oooover!!!”
“......Ah.”
Reality was merciless. Time had run out.
“...N-no way...”
Thinking that all the effort he had poured in until now had been for nothing, and that he had betrayed the expectations of his teacher and his friend, Midoriya collapsed to the ground.
“Ugh...!!!”
At the same time, the shattered right arm and leg sent a wave of insane, familiar pain crashing through him.
In the end, as he lay there groaning and thinking he’d just be carried off again, the brown-haired girl who had helped him was also vomiting violently from the side effects of her Quirk.
“Bueeeek...”
“Are you okay?”
A black-haired girl who looked gentle came over to her and slowly rubbed her back.
“Buuueeeek...”
“There, there. Get it all out... You should be feeling better now.”
“...Huh? W-wow... it really does... my stomach feels better.”
And to Midoriya’s surprise, when she lightly brushed her glowing hand over the girl, the torrent of vomiting stopped at once.
“Oh my.”
Soon after, the black-haired girl looked around, spotted Midoriya with his arms and legs not just broken but swollen purple, and hurried over.
A white cloth with a red cross was tied around her right arm.
It also had the words [UA Temporary Nurse!] written very large on it.
“Wow... that’s pretty bad. Are you all right?”
“Y-yeah... I’m used to it, so I’m fine...”
Midoriya was panting, his vision already going dark from the pain, and even so he insisted he was fine. But he was getting to the point where it hurt so much he felt like he might pass out.
And yet...
Pong~ pong~
“Snowflakes...?”
Seeing white-and-blue snowflakes bloom in the air, Midoriya wondered if he was seeing something wrong.
The most shocking part was...
“Huh!?”
The pain in his arms and legs gradually faded, and then the numbness that had taken over his body completely returned to normal.
“A-amazing...!”
Before he knew it, Midoriya, who had been half-conscious a moment ago, was standing on his own two feet.
“Are you okay? Nothing feels off anywhere, right?”
“Yes!! Thank you! Th-this is incredible. To be healed this quickly without even losing any stamina...!”
Looking at his arms and legs, which seemed as if they had never been broken at all, Midoriya smiled brightly and looked at the person who had healed him.
“......Uh...”
And then he lost his words in an instant.
She had a neat bob cut, a snowflake-shaped headband holding back her bangs, and flower patterns shining in her pink irises.
“Uh......”
Even Midoriya, who was embarrassed just looking at a woman, found himself staring at her and thinking she was beautiful.
But...
Her complexion looked strangely...
“Haa... I’m tiiiired...”
Thud!
“Whaaaaat!?”
When the nurse girl suddenly collapsed forward as if bowing, Midoriya and the brown-haired girl both rushed over in alarm.
“A-are you okay!?”
“What’s goin’ on!? What happened!?”
The brown-haired girl seemed pretty flustered too, and she ran over to Koyuki while spouting dialect.
“Th-the thing is...”
“The thing is?”
And while the brown-haired girl laid the exhausted Koyuki down on the floor, Koyuki herself was drenched in sweat, her face deathly pale.
“I-I treated about twenty-five people before I came heeere...”
“......”
From that moment on, everyone there who had been injured and treated by Koyuki became a sinner.
“I’m sorry...”
Among them, Midoriya—the culprit who had suffered the worst injuries and driven Koyuki to exhaustion—was the one who had to kneel the most.
“Hwaaa...”
Koyuki, who used her own stamina as the price of healing, was now lying there completely limp.
And a little later...
“Honestly, I told you to manage your stamina better. Did you faint again?”
“Teacherrr... I’m sorryyy...”
Recovery Girl, the nurse at U.A. and Koyuki’s mentor, came over and naturally placed a cooling pack on top of her head.
“Sigh...”
Seeing her beloved student as soon as she arrived, Recovery Girl nodded after confirming that Koyuki had neatly treated the surrounding students’ injuries. At this point, she was practically guaranteed to pass as a temporary nurse.
Of course, the fact that she collapsed whenever she healed too many people still needed improvement.
“Still, you did very well.”
“Hehe. Thank you...”
Recovery Girl patted Koyuki’s head, unable to hide her affection for her student.
And so the exam ended. One by one, the students in the exam hall began leaving, while some immediately called their parents or friends.
After thanking Koyuki and the brown-haired girl who had saved him over and over again, Midoriya left the exam site and called Hakuji.
“Ah, yeah, Hakuji-kun... I don’t think I made it... Yeah. Yeah... B-but there’s always next year...”
Midoriya continued the call, gloomy but still determined to try again and again.
Meanwhile...
“......!!!”
“What is it?”
“...I thought I heard a nostalgic name from somewhere.”
Koyuki suddenly sprang to her feet, sensing something, and looked around, but there was no sign of the person she was hoping to see.
“...That’s strange... I’m sure I felt Hakuji-san’s name...”
“This is seriously beyond help. There’s no cure for love, huh.”
To think she could feel a name instead of simply hearing it.
“Hakuji, was it? I’d like to see what kind of face he has.”
She was at the point where even Recovery Girl wanted to see the guy who had stolen her precious student’s heart so completely.
She didn’t know what had happened between the two of them that made them search for each other like star-crossed lovers, but Recovery Girl chuckled as she put a salt candy into Koyuki’s mouth.
“Hoh-hoh, Hakuji, huh? What a nice name.”
“...Yes.”
Realizing how embarrassingly she had just acted, Koyuki covered her flushed cheeks with both hands and looked down at the ground.
“...Hm? Hakuji... Hakuji...? I feel like I’ve heard that name somewhere...”
As she led her student to the infirmary to review today’s treatment, Recovery Girl mulled over the name Hakuji, which strangely lingered on her tongue and twisted in her mind.
“This bone... who set it? Was it you, Toshinori?”
And then, in that instant.
A fragment of memory flashed through Recovery Girl’s mind.
“I did.”
“...If a non-medical person had done it, I would have scolded them thoroughly, but... you aligned it very neatly. Well done. Now, have a peppermint.”
“Thank you.”
Yes.
There had definitely been a child with a strange aura back then.
But why was that memory coming back now...
“Now, you should thank him too. Thanks to this boy, you’ll heal quickly.”
“H-Hakuji-kun... thank you...”
Ah.
No way?
“Koyuki.”
“Yes, Teacher.”
“Could that boyfriend of yours be...”
“Yes, yes.”
“Black bob cut.”
“Yes.”
“Pink eyebrows.”
“Yes.”
“Blue eyes?”
“Yes.”
............
Silence drifted between Koyuki and Recovery Girl.
“The world really is small... so small...”
“Wait, Teacher!! You’ve met Hakuji-san!? When!? Where!?”
“...Could you put me down first?”
Looking at Koyuki, who was so excited she had literally picked her up, Recovery Girl thought to herself that the love of these kids was truly heavy.
And then, late that evening.
[I’ll destroy every last one of them.]
[Ahahaha!! This is more fun than I expected for doll play!]
[Now this is an interesting doll!!!]
After watching the footage of Hakuji’s exam, Recovery Girl thought once again.
“Is this what kids these days call some kind of tough-guy macho thing...?”
tmi.
1. Hakuji’s thing: he smiles surprisingly often. But when he’s smiling like that, it’s usually not Hakuji—it’s Akaza.
2. Hakuji’s main personality is actually Akaza’s murderous smile. He’s just suppressing his battle instincts through training, practice, and meditation.
He lived as Hakuji for 18 years, as Akaza for more than 120 years, and then as Hakuji again for 15 years, so Akaza still makes up most of his personality.
3. Soryu Koyuki: Quirk [Healing]
When the snowflakes that come from her hands touch a person, they return that person to the state they are supposed to be in. It’s less healing and more restoration.
It’s similar to Eri’s Rewind later on, but a little more controllable, and the resource isn’t her body heat or stress but her stamina.
If she uses it too much, she collapses from exhaustion, as you can see.
