Chapter 19: The Next Problem Children

Midoriya grabbed the head of the 2P villain charging straight at him and, bracing his waist and legs, yanked with all his might.

“Haaah!!”

Creak... creak...!

“Uryaaah!!”

CRACK!!!

With monstrous strength, Midoriya ripped the villain’s entire head clean off, and the machine immediately stopped moving and collapsed.

“Haa. Haa. That makes 21P...!”

He had sealed away [One For All], which he still couldn’t control at all, and was earning points purely with his trained body alone, but his pace was painfully slow.

“Die!!!”

Boom! Crash!!

Bakugo was detonating explosions wildly from both hands, deliberately drawing every 1P and 2P villain around him and taking them on with dazzling destructive power and ferocity.

“There are quite a few promising students this term.”

“Mm-hm. That yellow-haired student’s combat sense really stands out. Explosion, huh... It’s a good Quirk.”

Meanwhile, the U.A. teachers were watching everything through the mini-cameras installed around the town and inside the virtual villains themselves.

It seemed there were quite a few promising students among this year’s freshmen, because all of the teachers were watching the screens with pleased expressions.

But the monitor drawing the most attention was the one labeled [A].

“Ahahaha!!! These dolls are pretty satisfying to smash!!!”

The screen was filled with laughter and nothing but blue light.

“Soyama Hakuji, third-year at Orudera Middle School. His Quirk is Oni. It combines super regeneration and monstrous strength, so it’s practically... an invincible Quirk.”

As the youngest teacher, dressed like an astronaut, explained, question marks seemed to pop up over the other teachers’ heads.

“...That’s it?”

“That’s just brute strength?”

Looking at Hakuji on the screen, it was obvious this was not something that could be dismissed as simple brute strength.

Bang!!

He had clearly thrown a punch with bare hands, yet the virtual villain far away had shattered to pieces.

Clang!!!

When he struck the ground with his bare hand, the earth was completely pulverized, taking the surrounding villains with it.

KWAANG!!

Every time he punched, blue flames flickered, and the machines were destroyed faster than their sensors could even keep up.

[69... 74... 88...]

As a result, his score rose at a ridiculous rate, and at times he destroyed things so quickly that some of them weren’t even registered at all.

“He’s already passed last year’s cutoff just six minutes after the exam started.”

“Scary stuff, these middle schoolers nowadays.”

With the blue light filling the screen and Hakuji’s blurred afterimages flickering across it, all the teachers nodded as if the top student of the term had already been decided.

‘...I knew he was strong, but what in the world is that, Hakuji boy...’

Even All Might, sitting among them, couldn’t hide his amazement.

It was shocking enough that a boy he knew well had suddenly appeared in such a bizarre, completely different form, but the unimaginable power he was displaying in that form left All Might speechless.

“Hold on. Go back three seconds.”

“Huh?”

“Three seconds back, to when he destroyed that 3P villain.”

“Yes, sir.”

At that moment, a teacher with bandages wrapped around his neck spoke up, and a staff member adjusted the footage frame by frame, rewinding the screen.

“What is it?”

“Look over there.”

“Hm?”

As the bandaged teacher pointed at the frozen image, all the teachers focused their attention there.

“That 2P villain attacking the girl in the back suddenly exploded.”

“...Huh? It did.”

[Kyaaah!!]

In the corner of the screen, a female student had crouched down in shock when a 2P villain ambushed her from behind.

Boom!

But then something rippled through the air for a moment, and the 2P villain shattered instantly.

And in that exam field, there was only one student capable of throwing a punch with that kind of wind pressure.

“Please add the missing 2 points to examinee number 7110, Soyama Hakuji. It looks like he’s been firing off invisible attacks besides that one too, so I think we’ll need to add them manually as well, not just automatically.”

“Does that student have eyes in the back of his head or something? How did he see that...?”

“Well, it’s hot, so that’s good! YEAH!!!!”

Watching Hakuji destroy villains at incredible speed while also sending out bursts of wind pressure to save endangered students in between, All Might’s mouth curved wide.

‘But my successor will be amazing too!?’

He didn’t say it out loud, but All Might looked over at his own successor, who was running hard through Exam Field E.

[Haaah!!!]

Midoriya had grabbed one of the 1P villain’s limbs and was tearing it off before bringing it down on its head.

‘...Has he been influenced by Hakuji boy?’

All Might flinched for a moment at the savage attack method.

“Now, now, it’s about time. Let’s give the students their trial!”

Then the small bear-like creature sitting in the chair smiled brightly and pressed the sinister red button with its adorable paw pads.

KWAAAANG!!

“Eh?”

Suddenly, with a deafening roar, a building came crashing down.

Thud!

A green metal hand about the size of a dump truck burst out, tearing through the building.

Gugugugugung!!!

A caterpillar track nearly the same size as the building began moving, crushing everything beneath it.

“It’s...!”

“Way too big!!!!”

With the appearance of the monstrous calamity, the 0P villain, all the students panicked and started running.

‘There’s no way we can fight that! And we don’t even have enough points!!’

‘We have to run and destroy as many robots as we can!!’

‘Save meeee!!’

Each with their own thoughts, they all began fleeing from the 0P villain.

Seeing that, all the teachers burst into loud laughter.

While the students and teachers were feeling completely opposite emotions, the bandaged teacher’s eyes gleamed sharply.

“...In the face of such overwhelming danger, to step forward anyway when there’s no benefit at all...”

His gaze landed on two screens.

“Either they’re a problem child with no thought in their head...”

[This is another fun doll!!!]

Hakuji was racing up the 0P villain’s arm at incredible speed, gathering power into both arms.

“Or they’re nothing but the seed of a hero.”

[U, uwaaah!!]

Midoriya leaped upward with astonishing spring, reaching the 0P villain’s head with his fist clenched tight.

“No, they’re nothing but the seeds of great future top heroes.”

Seeing not one but two students charge at the 0P villain for no benefit whatsoever, he grinned.

[Destructive Kill - Demon Core Eightfold Strike!]

KAGAGAGAGAKANG!!

The eight punches Hakuji unleashed instantly turned the giant, boxy head of the 0P villain into a mangled heap of scrap metal.

[SMASH!!!!]

CRAAACK!!

And Midoriya’s full-power punch completely blew the 0P villain’s head away.

“YEAH!!!!!”

The teachers sprang to their feet and cheered as dopamine exploded along with the villain’s head.

“...One of them rushed in to save a complete stranger, and the other just charged in for no reason at all... Honestly, this term is going to be a headache...”

Of course, there was one person who was clutching his head.

“All right, then. Those two are practically guaranteed to pass, so who’s in favor of sending them to Eraser Head, the specialist in problem children? Put your hands up!”

“YEAH~!!”

“.............!!!!!”

It didn’t take long before the bandaged hero, Eraser Head, started strangling Present Mic.

tmi.

1. I squeezed ChatGPT dry for this chapter’s illustration too. I wrung it until even the machines started making squeaking noises.

2. For reference, a single 0P villain costs a whopping 240 billion yen. That number came from a gag side story, but if a monster robot like that really existed, it would absolutely be priced that high.

And two of them were destroyed.
