“………….”
For several days, Midoriya had been nothing but gloomy.
For three days, with Recovery Girl’s help, he had squeezed out every last bit of stamina he had for healing and tried to master [One For All], but the results were...
Two fractured right humeri, one fractured left humerus, and one fracture each in both legs...
It was truly miserable.
“Focus a little more, boy! I mean, pull it up from inside a little more, with a whoosh and a bang!”
All Might’s advice, from the very moment he first received [One For All] and had been able to control it perfectly, was not very helpful.
“With your power, you need to learn to control it yourself. I can’t keep helping you forever. Still, at this rate, the only thing that suits you is pearls before swine.”
Hakuji’s heavy, brutally honest words were still echoing in his skull.
But the time left before the entrance exam was only three days, and with All Might insisting he needed plenty of rest the day before, he had only actually practiced [One For All] for two days.
Even then, despite spending those two days breaking his limbs over and over to train, his progress had been zero.
And yet.
There was no time left.
“Hey, snap out of it.”
“...Yeah.”
Right in front of Midoriya now stood the massive school gate, the U.A. entrance exam venue.
Hakuji, who had been radiating an unusually sharp aura since that morning, took a breath.
It was really right in front of him now.
“No matter what happens... I’ll pass.”
Whether an Oni appeared, a tiger appeared, or Fermat’s Last Theorem appeared.
With the resolve to overcome anything, Hakuji stepped forward.
After entering the exam site and receiving his candidate number, Hakuji went into the classroom and took the written exam, which felt like it might split his head open.
“The Hero Course practical exam presentation is this way~!”
After about five hours of exams across all subjects, Hakuji followed the staff’s guidance to a very large auditorium, where he immediately found Midoriya among the seats divided by school and region.
“How was the exam?”
“I solved it the way I usually do, so I think it was fine.”
Hakuji sat down in the auditorium, relieved that the test had been more manageable than he expected.
And then...
“.........”
“.........”
He ran into Bakugo.
And right in the seat next to Hakuji’s, too.
“Tch!”
Bakugo immediately tried to move to another seat, but when he saw everything was already full, he clicked his tongue loudly and sat down, making it very clear he was in a bad mood.
“Lo... long time no see, Kacchan.”
“Shut up. Be quiet. Don’t talk to me.”
“...Okay.”
It had been months since they’d last seen each other, so Midoriya tried to greet him, but Bakugo ignored him with nothing but abuse and immediately started reading the guide chart, as if he had no intention of speaking.
Once all the students who had finished the written exam were seated, a dazzling spotlight lit up the center of the auditorium.
“Welcome to my live show todayyyyy!!!”
And in the brilliantly lit auditorium, a hero with his hair dramatically swept high into the air appeared.
“EVERYBODY SAY YEAH!!!!”
“………….”
“Well now, that’s quiet---!! Exam listeners! I’m going to shasa-sha and present the outline of the practical exam! ARE YOU READYY!!?”
Even though the students around him didn’t react at all, the Voice Hero [Present Mic] didn’t care in the slightest and kept his own energy high as he thundered through the explanation.
The practical exam was simple.
In a fake city, you just had to defeat virtual villains assigned different point values.
Of course, there were also nuisance villains worth 0 points, but the students in the auditorium all thought they could simply avoid those and keep things easy.
And so Present Mic’s noisy yet strangely quiet presentation came to an end, and he grinned brightly.
“A true hero is one who overcomes the misfortunes of life!
[PLUS ULTRA]!!!
Now then, I hope you all enjoy your trials and tribulations!”
“I’m assigned to Exam Site A.”
“I’m E. I guess they split us up to prevent students from the same school cooperating with each other.”
Midoriya and Hakuji realized they had been assigned to completely opposite exam sites and shook hands with each other.
“If you fail, it’s training until the day you die.”
“Y-yes! I definitely won’t fail! Absolutely!!!”
Feeling threatened in a very different sense, Midoriya broke out in a cold sweat and boarded the bus to his exam site, while Hakuji got on his own bus.
About five minutes later...
“Is this it?”
Hakuji arrived in front of the exam site, where a huge wall marked with an A surrounded the area.
“...Looks like money’s overflowing here. They built an entire town.”
As Hakuji marveled at the enormous scale of the exam site, the students around him began putting on tools they had brought with them or clothes tailored to their Quirks.
Hakuji’s outfit was simple.
A gi.
Wearing a pure white gi that looked like something only judo athletes would wear, Hakuji closed his eyes for a moment.
Then he drew in a deep breath and steeled himself.
‘I’ll go all out.’
This time, he would use the power of the demon he had hidden for years.
This was an exam.
And more than that, it was the final gate to meeting Koyuki.
With the power he had gained by losing the one he loved.
He would use it to meet the one he loved again.
Crack... crackle...!!
Changes began to spread through Hakuji’s body.
His white skin grew even paler, turning translucent like a corpse’s.
Thud-thud-thud...!
The muscles throughout his body swelled and compressed again and again, and the strange sound of bones twisting echoed out.
His nails turned red as if stained with blood, and his hair shifted from black to pink.
Ssshhhk...!
Finally, blue tattoos began to rise across his entire body.
The blue markings raced over him, forming bizarre, twisted patterns that covered him from head to toe.
“W-what is that person...?”
“Did he... transform?”
“Scary...”
The students nearby all recoiled in fear at Hakuji’s sudden change in form.
If it had just been a transformation, they would have found it interesting and left it at that...
But that was different.
It was the fear of facing a biological natural enemy.
The discomfort of something that should not exist in this world suddenly appearing before their eyes.
“Haa... Hoo...”
When Hakuji exhaled again, his eyes had become those of an Oni, with blue-white sclera and yellow pupils.
And while everyone around him was backing away in terror, trying to put more distance between themselves and Hakuji...
[START!!!!!]
Present Mic’s voice rang out.
At the same time.
“[Destructive Kill]”
With a quiet murmur, Hakuji’s figure vanished.
“[Random Style].”
Suddenly appearing blue fireworks filled the exam site.
Virtual villains wandered around the main road of the fake town, searching for students.
Beep?
The moment their sensors detected something.
KRAK!!!!!
They were instantly shattered into fragments.
BANG!!!! BOOM!
A 1-point villain was kicked into the air for dozens of meters, then collided with another villain and exploded.
CRUNCH!!!
The head of a 3-point villain was crushed flat in an instant, like a can stomped underfoot.
Beep-beep-beep!!
A 2-point villain finally detected something and tried to move, but its torso had already been blown apart.
In less than ten seconds.
Blue light, like the sparks of fireworks, filled the road.
And those sparks, as if alive, flew through the sky and turned dozens of villains to dust in an instant.
At the center of that fireworks display...
There was only one Oni.
“Now then, who’s next?
Whether you’re a doll or whatever else.
Come on.
Come all of you.
I’ll destroy every last one of you.”
It was the reappearance of the newly born Akaza.
tmi.
1. Akaza reappearance, serial-post demon reappearance
