Chapter 7: We Fight and Die.

I continued picking off the Orks one by one.

Thanks to the Orks firing shootas and sluggas at each other as they brawled, I went unnoticed.

I could also see the surviving refugees escaping one by one while those disgusting Greenskins fought among themselves.

"I have successfully incited internal strife among the xenos."

["Well done, Guardsman. The fleet is moving toward your current coordinates. Reinforcements will arrive in seventeen minutes. Keep observing the target."]

"Understood."

With infighting breaking out, it would not matter if I sniped a few more.

I had already used thirty bolter rounds, leaving roughly one hundred and twenty.

Deciding to fire only ten more shots, I searched for a high-value target.

As I swept my eyes around through my field glasses, I spotted something important.

"Thank you, Your Majesty the Emperor."

A swarm of squigs laden with explosives had come into view.

It was such a massive herd of squigs that even the Orks did not dare fight near it.

And beside those squigs, I saw crude war machines made by the Orks.

"One good hit on that should do it."

I did not know why, but thousands of suicide squigs were gathered together, while Ork armored vehicles were passing beside them.

If that many suicide squigs went off, even the Ork vehicles would not emerge unscathed.

"O caller of death. Be with me."

I whispered to the bolter.

Then I prayed to the God-Emperor who watched over humanity from Terra.

"God-Emperor, guide my eyes so that I may see the target, and reap the lives of the worthless."

May a single shot silence them all.

The distance was over two kilometers.

A distance where I had to account for everything—the planet's rotation, temperature, atmospheric pressure, humidity, even the beat of my heart.

I prayed to the Emperor.

A low vibration hummed through the bolter.

The Machine Spirit was telling me something.

Trust me.

Then reap the lives of the worthless.

I took careful aim, keeping the bolter trained on the target until its vibration ceased.

Then, the instant a light blinked on the bolter—

I pulled the trigger.

"For the Emperor!"

It lasted only an instant, but I saw it.

The bolter round's trajectory, striking a suicide squig directly in the center of the herd.

I saw everything.

And then—

An enormous blast and a violent shockwave erupted, as though a nuclear weapon had detonated.

Beep—

The ringing in my ears left me unable to hear anything.

The intense flash left me unable to see anything.

But I could feel it with certainty.

That with a single bolter round, I had put a great many of those disgusting xenos to sleep.

After some time passed, my vision gradually began to return.

A massive crater that looked to be hundreds of meters across, and the wreckage of Ork armored vehicles scattered in every direction.

And Ork corpses strewn everywhere.

I had delivered judgment upon the refugees' enemies—and the enemies of His Majesty the Emperor.
