‘Ah! I lost the 50/50 again?!’
I sighed inwardly as I studied alone at home.
‘Haa... Do you know how many resources I saved up to pull this character’s signature weapon, and I lost the 50/50 again? Seriously, the weapon banner is even worse than the character banner.’
The game I was playing was Genshin Impact. As someone who liked open-world games like The Witcher and was a total nerd, it suited me pretty well. But that damned gacha was the problem.
Since I was the sort of person strapped for both money and time, I only bought the monthly pass and Battle Pass, then saved up Primogems through daily commissions to pull. The possibility of losing the 50/50 was pretty devastating. So I was usually content just getting one copy of a character—but this time, a rerun for a character I liked had finally come around.
I already had the character, so I dumped my resources into the weapon banner for the sake of looks—and, unfortunately, I lost the 50/50.
‘Who knows when they’ll rerun again if not now? Ah, seriously...’
I tried to cool down my frustration from losing the 50/50 by studying, but I simply couldn’t make myself pick up my pen.
‘I’ll just take a short nap, then study.’
It was three in the afternoon, the perfect time for drowsiness to set in. I set an alarm and flopped onto my bed.
‘I’ll calm down for a bit, then get back to studying.... It’ll work out somehow.’
With the warm sunlight on me, my eyes slowly drifted shut. Thinking about the alarm that would go off in an hour—and how I would be confronted with the reality of having lost the 50/50 again—was enough to make me miserable, but at least this was a way to cool my head.
But that expectation was spectacularly wrong.
And in a very bad way.
"Mmm.... Huh! Is it already night?!"
The moment I woke up, I could tell that my surroundings were dark. What was strange, though, was that I could hear people talking. I was supposed to be alone, wasn’t I?
"No, I’m saying, Sergei! Why did you pick something like this up and make trouble for us?!"
"Still, Angelina, I was out picking raspberries, and there was a child collapsed on the ground. What kind of person just ignores that and walks by?"
"Ugh... You’re the one who picked him up, so deal with it yourself. Do you not know we’re in the middle of an operation? Honestly, you’re way too softhearted for your own good."
A child? Sergei? What was that supposed to mean? Hearing a name that sounded like it ought to be attached to some tiny pepper, I looked down at my body...
I really had become a child.
"What the fuck..."
"Hey, Sergei, I think that kid woke up. But he’s swearing the instant he wakes up at that age?"
"Haha! This little guy will do a fantastic job when he grows up and joins the Fatui!"
What? The Fatui? Had I heard wrong? I looked around me. A flag emblazoned with the Fatui insignia, makeshift lodgings, and the appearances of Fatui mobs I must have beaten to death thousands of times in the game all came into view.
That was right. I had gone to sleep and woken up inside the world of Genshin Impact.
"Fuck."
"Oh, he swore again! Isn’t he cute? Why don’t we take him to Snezhnaya after the operation’s over?"
"How many times do I have to tell you we’re ‘in the middle’ of an operation? You fat pig, Sergei. Just see if there’s an orphanage nearby."
"Whine...."
Indescribable information flooded into my mind. What was I supposed to do? What point in time was this? Could I even survive?
"Oh, come to think of it, isn’t there the House of the Hearth in Fontaine, run by Lord Arlecchino? How about sending him there?"
"Lord Arlecchino? That doesn’t sound bad. I heard they’re recruiting orphans anyway, so let’s take him there."
The instant the name Arlecchino came up, the survival sensor in my head reached a conclusion.
‘There’s a fifty-fifty chance I’m screwed.’
