Chapter 50: Eltor

From the sky, Vertis watched as Rimuru and his allies battled Charybdis and the Megalodons. Charybdis drove its Megalodon subordinates forward to assault Rimuru's forces, but Rimuru's companions were more than capable of handling the onslaught.

One of the Megalodons was struck by Benimaru's Hell Flare and went down in flames, though it was merely charred black rather than being reduced to ash.

The reason for this was the innate ability possessed by Charybdis and the Megalodons: magic interference. This ability effectively cut the power of magic in half. Of course, such a defense wouldn't be enough to block attacks from overwhelmingly powerful opponents like Milim or myself, but as a passive ability on the level of an innate gift, it was still troublesome.

More importantly, however, they lacked intelligence. A monster possessing both high intelligence and an ability like magic interference would be a genuine threat, but these were mindless beasts. That made them far less dangerous than they otherwise might have been.
