Chapter 1: Prologue

Demons.

The monsters of Hell that are always evil in every fairy tale, standing against God and the angels.

In modern times, plenty of media has portrayed demons as kinder than one might expect, even forming proper societies of their own. Still, for eight or nine people out of ten, the first thing that comes to mind when they hear “demon” is an evil creature.

Red skin, bat wings flapping at their backs, faces perpetually twisted in anger like the horns sprouting from their heads—or seducing innocent people and cackling wickedly from the shadows.

...Why am I suddenly talking about this?

The reason I’m talking about demons is because I became one myself.

Thankfully, not some horned, bright-red demon, but a demon from a novel.

...That didn’t make it entirely good, either.

When I first realized I had reincarnated, I wondered just how badly my life had gotten screwed up. What was this unreal scene before my eyes? And why, after dying, had I fallen into the world of a novel instead of going to the afterlife?

............

No, from another perspective, maybe I ought to have been happy.

After all, an accident in high school had left my whole body paralyzed, forcing me to spend my life in a hospital. Now, I had a body that could run around like this.

And not just any decent body, either—it was the body of an [Arch Demon], one of the higher races in the story.

Well, strictly speaking, it wasn’t a body but a spiritual life-form given shape.

Anyway,

I hadn’t entered some novel I knew nothing about, but Tensura, a famous novel I had read quite a lot. And I had drawn a race capable of endless growth if I handled things well, so didn’t that mean all I had to do was enjoy a quiet, peaceful life from here on out?

......That was what I used to think.

"Hehe~ This is fun. Any chance you’d like to become my servant?"

"You, join my ranks. I’ll make a special exception and teach you my Nuclear Magic."

"Fufufu, that won’t do. This child swore to serve no one but me. Isn’t that right?"

That was before the Primordial Demons got their hands on me.
