Chapter 18: Chapter 18

After obtaining my new weapon, Kratos, I wanted to head straight for the Dungeon, but I ran into Goddess Istarot’s stubborn opposition.

“No! You haven’t had a proper rest in ten whole days. Take today off and leave tomorrow.”

She had seen right through me—that while Hephaistos was forging my weapon over those ten days, I had been just as tense and hadn’t really rested either.

Well, if the greatest blacksmith god in Orario was making a weapon just for me, it was only natural that I’d lose sleep from excitement.

Of course, I had also spent those ten days going into the Dungeon and hunting hard so I could prepare the rest of my gear.

I couldn’t go to the Middle Floors relying on Kratos alone, so I kept going back and forth through the Middle Floors to get the best possible supplementary equipment—potions, emergency rations, and a sturdy backpack.

In the end, I followed her wishes and decided to rest one more day.

I headed to the small training ground set up in the backyard of the little house we lived in.

Kratos floated in the air, and despite its massive appearance, it moved as light as a feather at my will.

But the weight and power within it were real.

Even a casual swing cut through the air with a sharp cry.

Whoosh—not a dull boom, but a piercing shiiing that felt like space itself was being torn apart.

This really was thrilling the more I used it.

I could honestly swing this thing all day.

But I couldn’t delay any longer.

“All right, let’s begin.”

I set Kratos down on the ground and ran my hand along the huge blade.

This sword, forged from adamantite, was already a first-class weapon in its own right.

But it still wasn’t complete.

Through my [Enchant], this sword would finally become a true weapon of my own.

Since I was resting anyway, I might as well push my [Mind] to the limit.

I closed my eyes and began to imagine the powers I would bestow upon Kratos.

The lack of attack power and durability I had painfully felt in the battle with Goliath.

And an absorption ability that would guarantee my survival in a crisis.

Finally, extra effects that could overwhelm my enemies.

I needed more than just a strong weapon. I needed an all-purpose weapon that would protect me in any situation and crush whatever stood before me.

Sharpness 6, Unbreaking 3, Fire Aspect 2, Absorption 4, Critical 3, and Shockwave.

The maximum enchantment I could manage with the [Mind] I had now.

In the game, the maximum limit for Sharpness was 5, but I had no idea how it worked here. Still, it seemed like the limit had been loosened.

Probably the other enchantments were somewhat loosened too.

That said, I had the feeling I couldn’t just raise them infinitely.

Anyway, even if I only applied these, the power would be insane.

Just imagining it in my head made it an almost dizzying multi-enchantment setup.

If I had been Level 1, there was no way I could have even dreamed of a crazy enchantment like this...

But now that I was Level 2 and had gained the Genius ability, it was absolutely possible.

I placed my hand on Kratos and began gathering every last drop of [Mind] inside me.

“Let fate be bestowed.”

With that short chant, the enormous mana flowing out of my body poured into Kratos.

This was on a completely different scale from my previous enchantments.

The entire blade was wrapped in a faint light.

The air in the training ground sank under the pressure of mana.

The grass around me flattened against the ground, and the dust floating in the air began to swirl.

The Genius ability in my head calculated countless formulas and found the optimal path.

It engraved the concept of sharpness into the molecular structure of the blade and infused the power of durability into the very cohesion of the adamantite.

It sealed the heat of Fire Aspect like magma deep within the sword, and wove Absorption into the hilt so it would be linked to me.

It concentrated the razor edge of Critical at the sword’s sharpest point, and compressed the destructive force of Shockwave into its center of gravity.

My [Mind] was being sucked away like crazy.

My vision blurred, and cold sweat poured down my body.

My teeth chattered, and I felt like I might lose consciousness at any moment.

It was a horrible sensation, as if all the blood in my veins was being drained out of my body.

But I didn’t stop.

I had no intention of giving it anything less than full power.

This was the weapon I would be using until I became a first-class adventurer. How could I settle for anything halfway?

Of course I could raise it further later, but right now, I wanted to create the strongest weapon possible.

How much time had passed?

By the time the [Mind] inside me was nearly empty, the light surrounding Kratos finally began to fade.

I staggered backward.

Kratos in front of me looked no different on the outside.

It was still a massive greatsword with a jet-black blade and a faint red glow running through it.

But the quality of the power dwelling inside it had become something from an entirely different dimension.

“...Did it work?”

With trembling hands, I reached toward Kratos.

When I lifted the sword with my Weapon Master skill, I wasn’t sure if it was just my imagination, but the sense of connection felt far stronger than before.

An overwhelming feeling that it had become part of my body.

Maybe it was because I now truly believed it was my weapon.

I slowly swung Kratos.

I hadn’t even put much strength into it, but I had the strange impression that the space the blade passed through was warping.

As a test, I sent Kratos flying toward a huge boulder sitting in the corner of the training ground.

KWA-BOOM!

The instant Kratos struck the rock, a thunderous blast erupted along with a shockwave.

The boulder vanished without leaving even a speck of dust behind.

The shockwave didn’t stop there—it shook even the training ground’s solid walls.

“...That’s insane.”

I let out a dry laugh.

At this level of power, I could probably tear through Goliath’s skin like paper.

My head suddenly spun.

I sank down onto the ground.

[Mind] down.

The phenomenon that occurred when you completely exhausted your [Mind].

Since I had just bestowed the strongest enchantment I could manage, I supposed it was about time for this to happen.

All the strength drained from my body, and I couldn’t even twitch a finger.

Every sound in the world faded away, and the darkness closed in before my eyes.

This is pretty unpleasant...

“Nia! Are you all right?”

Hearing the commotion, Goddess Istarot rushed over and supported me just before I passed out.

Held in her arms, I smiled in satisfaction as my consciousness faded.

The strongest weapon I could make with my current self was finally complete.
