Chapter 6: Wow! Tohka!

April 17. Monday.

The sweet weekend that felt far too short was over, and a new week was beginning. It had also been six days since I came here as an exchange student. Six days was a span of time that could feel short or long, depending on how you looked at it. During that time, I’d managed to make a lot of memories at Raizen High School.

I’d used the school store and somehow ended up taking one of the four seats among the legendary Raizen High School store’s Four Heavenly Kings.

Because I kept wandering around near Shido more often than usual, I’d even been paired with him by the imaginative girls as one half of the school’s 『Best Couples Picked by Fujoshi』, and somehow ranked near the top.

On top of that, I’d also made plenty of ordinary, enjoyable memories, like accidentally misusing my ability and smashing part of a school wall.

How long had it been since I’d felt this happy? I’d applied to be an exchange student because I wanted to see scenes I’d only ever seen in anime in real life, but even setting that aside, my experiences at Raizen High School had been genuinely fun.

I wanted to keep living this peaceful everyday life. I kept thinking that, which only made me feel like this exchange program had been one of the best decisions I’d ever made.

But today, right now, that peace might be broken.

“Tobiichi Origami....”

“....................”

It was after school, when the students going home had already left and the ones staying behind were still at school. Using an empty classroom at Raizen High School as our stage, Origami and I were silently glaring at each other in a standoff.

This wasn’t some accidental encounter with Origami. It wasn’t that a teacher had called us here for something, either. Just before I was about to head home with my friends, Origami had suddenly called me over and brought me to this nearby classroom.

Tobiichi Origami and me. Looking at the empty classroom that contained nothing but the two of us, I muttered inwardly, “So this is finally happening.”

The AST, the special unit of the Self-Defense Forces that fought Spirits. And Origami, one of AST’s members.

When I had slammed Tohka into a building on my first day in Japan, Shido hadn’t seen my face, but Origami definitely had.

The friends who had left school first had been muttering things like, “Could it be that Miss Tobiichi is confessing...?!”, all “oh my, oh my” about it, but I knew the truth. Tobiichi Origami had no interest in any man other than Itsuka Shido.

“What did you call me here for?”

During the six days I’d been attending Raizen High School, AST had never once attacked me. I’d assumed it was because they hadn’t noticed me, but if those six days had been a “preparation” period to deal with me, then I couldn’t say what kind of mess I’d be in here.

The way I’d looked for those six days, as if I hadn’t prepared anything at all, had all been an act. I was the same guy who’d been hovering around Origami almost as often as Shido, wary of her to the point that people had asked, “Do you maybe like Miss Tobiichi?”

There were still plenty of students staying after school for club activities. I didn’t think AST would suddenly fire missiles at a school like this, but.... Still, there was always the chance.

Just in case, I prepared my ability, ready to counterattack if it came to that.

Glaring at Origami, who was watching me with an expressionless face that held not a trace of emotion, I waited for her response.

And then she opened her mouth.

“Kang Haneul.... Right?”

“Yeah. So why did you call me?”

“I think you know that better than anyone.”

Of course.

Origami had seen me back then.

I scratched my head and muttered that this was a seriously annoying situation.

But if possible, I wanted to avoid fighting. Even if I had Sans’s powerful abilities like Gaster Blasters, telekinesis, and bone summoning, I didn’t want to fight a battle that had no benefit to me in the first place. I didn’t think I’d lose, but fighting AST, armed with missiles and laser cannons, was scary too.

Still, since she hadn’t launched missiles at me from the start and had instead called me here, it seemed like AST was at least planning to talk first rather than strike first.

Maybe this could be settled peacefully, without a fight. Feeling a little hopeful about that, I desperately turned my brain and spoke.

“Tobiichi. The truth is, I───.”

“I’ll have to refuse. I have no intention of dating anyone.”

“Wai─── hold on. What?”

And at the words that came out of her mouth, I had no choice but to stop what I was saying.

“I knew you’d been circling around me for the past six days. I kept trying to ignore it, but I couldn’t just let strange rumors spread around the school. So I’ll answer clearly now. I already have someone in mind. That’s why I have absolutely no intention of dating anyone else.”

“....................”

My eyelids twitched. It seemed like Origami had seriously misunderstood something, but I was so dumbfounded I couldn’t even speak. Maybe this was some kind of high-level psychological warfare. While I was losing my composure, AST members hidden nearby were going to jump out and subdue me.

But whether they were neglecting their duties or simply weren’t here at all, there was no sign of anyone jumping out nearby.

Tobiichi Origami left behind a short, “Well then, excuse me,” and went out through the back door of the classroom. I was now the only person left in the empty room. It was already my third minute standing there with a stupid face, frozen in place.

Then, suddenly, I realized one thing.

“...Did I just get rejected? I didn’t even confess.”

My legs lost their strength. I couldn’t even let out a dry laugh, only a parched “Ha...!” escaping from my mouth.

Still, thanks to what had happened a moment ago, I now knew that Origami hadn’t seen me then. That alone was enough of a gain for me, I supposed....

“This is seriously messed up... haha. Man, really....”

───For some reason, I felt awful.

And extremely so.

○○○

April 20. Thursday.

And today was the ninth day since I’d come to Raizen High School as an exchange student.

“Heh... hehhehehe....”

“...Itsuka?”

As I sat at my desk, preparing for class like usual, I was startled by Shido suddenly letting out a sinister laugh from the seat beside me. To make it worse, he even had inexplicable dark circles under his eyes, making the whole atmosphere twice as gloomy.

“Hey, hey, sexual beast Itsuka. What’s got you grinning like that since earlier?”

“Are you okay? Shouldn’t you go to the infirmary?”

With a cold sweat on his brow, Tonomachi Hiroto asked that, and Younghee voiced her concern with a worried expression. Since last week, he’d had dark circles under his eyes and seemed to be getting more and more off, so seeing him laugh like a madman made me wonder if Shido had finally lost it.

But unlike the face of peak exhaustion I’d seen yesterday, Shido’s expression now, while still eerie, looked somehow refreshed. What on earth was wrong with him? Just as I was worrying and asking if he was okay, at that very moment.

“...It’s nothing. I’m just happy because I finally saw the happy ending I’d been waiting for all last night....”

“...Happy ending...?”

“You mean, like, a game?”

At Shido’s incomprehensible answer, we tilted our heads. I still had no idea how he’d ended up like this, but one thing was certain: he was in no condition to attend class today.

Looks like we’d have to take him to the infirmary. Just as Tonomachi and I exchanged glances and came to that conclusion.

“...Um.”

“Hm?”

But our opinion never made it into action. At the suddenly sleepy voice from behind us, Tonomachi and I both turned our heads back at the same time. And there, we found a familiar face.

“M-Murasame-sensei...?”

“....................”

Long pale-violet hair, thick dark circles beneath her eyes, and on the left chest of the white coat she wore, a patched-up teddy bear was pinned in place.

It was Murasame Reine, the physics teacher newly assigned to Raizen High School and Class 2-4 nine days ago.

“...I have something to take care of for a moment, so could I borrow Shido?”

“Huh? Ah, yes. But Shido doesn’t look very well right now....”

Just as I was about to say that, remembering how unwell Shido had looked, a clunk sounded suddenly. When I turned toward the source, I saw Shido rising from his desk like a zombie.

“Hey, Itsuka. If you’re having a hard time, we can go in your place....”

Tonomachi started to say that, but Shido shook his head and said he was fine, then followed after Murasame-sensei as she left the classroom. From where I was standing, his steps looked unsteady and worrying, but with the teacher beside him, I supposed he’d be fine. Tonomachi and Younghee came to that conclusion and went back to what they were doing or started preparing for class again.

“...Murasame-sensei.”

But I was thinking a little differently. To my friends, Murasame Reine was just the physics teacher newly assigned to Raizen High School and the assistant homeroom teacher of Class 2-4. But having seen the anime, I knew one more thing about Murasame Reine.

Murasame Reine. She was a member of [Ratatoskr], the organization that peacefully resolved [Spacequake]s through dialogue with Spirits. And the fact that she had taken Itsuka Shido away was definitely related to [Ratatoskr].

“Hmm....”

Squinting as I stared intently at the calendar hanging on the wall, I looked at the date of the day I had first come to Japan. April 10. And today was April 20.

It had already been ten days since I arrived here. And aside from the first day I came to Japan, I hadn’t experienced any other [Spacequake]s here at all.

I’d never seen the original story from the anime unfold while attending school. I’d even once wondered if the original plot wasn’t going to happen at all, and seriously worried that what I’d done on the first day, slamming Tohka into a building, might have triggered some kind of butterfly effect.

But today, Murasame-sensei, who belonged to [Ratatoskr], suddenly took away Shido, who had the power to seal a Spirit’s spiritual power.

My instincts were screaming at me. This was a sign that the original story, which had been quiet for ten days, would finally begin moving again soon.

─────But so what? I’m going back to Korea next week.

“What a waste....”

“What is?”

“Nothing. I’m just going to the bathroom for a bit.”

I got up from my seat and left the classroom too, walking toward the bathroom. And as I strolled there at an unhurried pace, all kinds of random thoughts floated through my head. It was clear the original story would start progressing soon, but the problem was that next Tuesday, the exchange student program would end and I’d be going back to Korea.

I didn’t know exactly when Shido would start pursuing Tohka, but today definitely wasn’t it. No, even if the pursuit started today, I probably wouldn’t get to see the scene I wanted before I left.

The reason I’d applied to be an exchange student was to see beautiful Spirits like Tohka wearing school uniforms and living peaceful school lives, not to get dragged into the middle of a battlefield with missiles flying around and explosions going off everywhere.

I hadn’t planned to get involved in the first place, but still, thinking I wouldn’t get to see Tohka living peacefully in her school uniform made me feel a little disappointed....

“...Huh?”

Come to think of it, I’d sent Tohka flying into a building pretty spectacularly, hadn’t I...? If I ran into her at school, wouldn’t she hold a grudge over that and attack me mercilessly?

“...Eh, I probably won’t be seeing her anymore anyway, so what’s the point of worrying about it.”

Scratching my head, I muttered that with a sigh and a disappointed voice. As a nerd, I was deeply disappointed that I wouldn’t get to see the other Spirits. Still, if I used Sans’s space movement properly, it seemed like I might be able to go back and forth between Korea and Japan, so I figured I could make good use of that later on.

Clack-clack. After finishing my business and shaking the moisture off my hands, I left the bathroom. “I really wanted to see Yoshino at least once....” I muttered inwardly as I walked back toward the classroom.

The bell announcing the start of class still hadn’t rung. I was just starting to think things like, “What should I do this weekend~?” when—

“Teacher, I’m serious. I’m seriously──.”

“U-um... this is difficult.”

“I seriously want to marry you!”

“...Eh?”

I saw it. A crazy scene of a student trying to hit on a teacher in the hallway. But the person doing the hitting on and the one being hit on both looked, no matter how I saw it, like people I knew. I rubbed my eyes and looked again at the scene of the attempted pickup.

I hadn’t seen wrong. Itsuka Shido was shouting that he wanted to marry a teacher. And there was Tama-sensei, firmly gripping Shido’s sleeve.

“...Are you serious?”

“Huh...? Ah, yes... well.”

“Really? By the time Itsuka-kun is old enough to get married, I’ll already be over thirty. Is that okay? Will you come greet my parents? Would you be okay with living with us? Once you graduate high school, you’ll take over our family, right?”

“U-um... sensei...?”

“Hey, Itsuka-kun. Do you have a little time? You’re not old enough to stamp a marriage registration form yet, so I’d like you to write a blood oath instead. I’ll go borrow a carving knife from the art room. Don’t worry, I won’t make it hurt.”

“I-I’m sorry! I don’t think I’m ready yet...! So please pretend this never happened...!”

Feeling the pressure radiating from Tama-sensei, Shido shouted that and fled in a panic. Startled, Tama-sensei hurriedly called after him, but Shido didn’t stop running and brushed past me as he dashed away behind me.

And I saw it. Something that looked like an earbud was stuck in one of Shido’s ears.

It was that thing from the anime. Definitely the device Shido used when he received Ratatoskr’s advice and support while pursuing Spirits.

“...Ah! This, could it be─!”

I remembered. The scene I’d seen in the anime, the one I’d forgotten, suddenly came back to me. It was definitely episode 2, or maybe it was. I couldn’t remember clearly since it had been a while since I’d watched the anime, but there was a scene where Shido, as part of some kind of training, confessed to Tama-sensei and Tobiichi Origami.

Since it had just been Tama-sensei a moment ago, that meant Shido was probably going to confess to Origami this time.

...Should I go watch?

For some reason, I had a feeling it would be fun, and the thought suddenly crossed my mind.

“...No, no. Forget it. Let’s not.”

But I changed my mind and gave up on the idea of sneaking over to watch.

There was nothing more pathetic than secretly spying on someone’s confession. Besides, there was already a rumor spreading all over the school that I’d confessed to Origami and been rejected. Three days ago, when Origami rejected me—though of course I hadn’t actually confessed—students who had secretly watched it happen spread the rumor everywhere.

If someone found me secretly watching Shido confess to Origami in this situation, another weird rumor would be guaranteed to spread.

I absolutely refused to deal with another annoying mess like that.

“I’ll just go check on Minsu in the next class and head back.”

There was something I’d lent him, so I needed to get that back anyway. Having reached that conclusion, I walked down the hallway with light steps.

○○○

The bell from the speaker mounted on the ceiling announced that break time was over. At once, sighs rose from all around as the students returned to their seats and prepared for class.

The students who had gone outside hurried back to their classrooms and sat down. Once the desks in the empty classrooms were all filled, the teachers in charge of the next period opened the front doors and stepped up to the lecterns.

For Class 1, Class 2, and Class 3, the teachers for the next subject began class, telling everyone to open their textbooks.

But not every class had started.

“Tama-sensei is late....”

“What’s going on?”

Class 2-4, where Tama-sensei was supposed to teach the next period. Five minutes had passed, but the teacher still hadn’t arrived, as if something had happened. Even if the bell had rung to start class, there was no way to proceed without a teacher. Since break time had ended but no one was there to control the classroom, the atmosphere in Class 2-4 naturally grew noisy and unsettled.

The girls chatted, and the boys burst into laughter. And the students who had no intention of talking with anyone simply stared blankly into space.

And there, among the other students spacing out, was a girl sitting quietly in her seat with her mouth shut.

Beautiful like a doll, yet wearing a cold, emotionless expression on her face.

Tobiichi Origami. She too was quietly staring into space.

───But she wasn’t actually spacing out.

She looked like she was because she was sitting still and silent, but in reality, fireworks were going off nonstop in her head, and the little Origami in her heart was shouting, “Yay. Yay. Yay.” while jumping up and down.

For the record, even while shouting “Yay. Yay. Yay.”, the little Origami in her heart still had an expressionless face. It was a rather eerie sight, if you thought about it, but in any case, the result was this: the famously emotionless Origami was so happy she was shouting “Yay. Yay. Yay.” inside.

`I actually... knew about Tobiichi from before.`

`...Honestly, I was really happy when I found out we were in the same class. After that, I kept watching only you during class for ten days.`

`T-the truth is, I even stayed in the classroom after school and sniffed the scent of the gym clothes Tobiichi had taken off.`

`So, um, if it’s okay with you, would you go out with me── no matter how you look at it, that’s way too sudden!`

Origami had replayed Shido’s confession from ten minutes ago hundreds of times already. Every time she kept recalling that memory, her heart was filled with a huge happiness she’d never felt before.

She had been confessed to by Shido. That fact was making the little Origami in her heart shout “Yay, yay, yay.” She wasn’t showing it on the outside at all, but right now Origami was incredibly happy.

She had made various efforts to somehow become close to him. Starting from the beginning, she’d planned to build a relationship step by step, first by opening the conversation lightly, but she never imagined she’d be confessed to right away.

The dozens of plans she’d drawn up to become Shido’s lover were no longer necessary. They were already lovers, so what did she need those for now?

What mattered now was the “next step after becoming lovers.”

`Two children, maybe. If it’s a boy, Kishi; if it’s a girl, Chiyogami....`

For the record, the “next step after becoming lovers” that Origami was thinking of was not some small date plan that high school couples would normally imagine. It was much more explicit than that, an adult plan carried out in bed. And Origami even had the drive and the necessary preparations to carry out that adult plan.

For example, there was a suspicious drug so shady that some countries banned it just for being possessed, a drug that could make even an elephant go into heat after consuming just one gram. Origami had obtained it by asking an acquaintance she knew.

Another item was a maid outfit specially procured to suit Shido’s tastes, custom-made by a famous French artisan after paying a huge sum. It wasn’t that Shido himself had said maid outfits were his preference. She’d simply heard him casually answer “maid outfit” when Tonomachi Hiroto asked, “If the next gravure idol outfit were to be decided, which would you want: nurse, shrine maiden, or maid?”

And the last one was something she still had now... no, more precisely, something Origami was wearing on her wrist at this very moment and could use immediately if necessary.

It looked like an ordinary wristwatch, but its true form was a wristwatch-type tranquilizer gun capable of firing powerful anesthetic needles that would put a person to sleep instantly when hit. She also had a suspiciously pungent liquid, but unlike the tranquilizer gun, which could be used easily from a distance, that one had the inconvenience of needing to be soaked into a cloth and pressed directly over the target’s nose and mouth.

This watch-type tranquilizer gun was truly convenient. Just by pressing the crown like this, it could fire an anesthetic needle and instantly put the person it hit to sleep....

Pshk!

“...Ah.”

She accidentally fired the tranquilizer gun. Fortunately, the sound was so small that no students realized she’d fired it, but the problem was that someone had been hit by the tranquilizer shot launched from the watch.

“Heeey...!”

“H-Haneul?!”

With a thud, a boy with the same white hair as Origami collapsed under the desk. Seeing the boy instantly fall asleep while making a strange noise, Origami froze in the exact pose she’d been in when she fired the tranquilizer gun.

It seemed that the boy had just been hit by the tranquilizer shot Origami had fired and immediately fallen asleep. As he collapsed to the floor, the girl beside him shook his body and said, “Huh? Haneul. Why are you suddenly like this? Wake up,” but there was no sign of him waking.

Of course not. This stuff was strong enough that no matter how hard you shook someone, they absolutely wouldn’t wake up. The problem was that some unrelated person had been hit by such a powerful tranquilizer needle.

“He suddenly fell asleep? Could it be narcolepsy?”

“Hey! Somebody take him to the infirmary!”

Two sturdy boys supported the deeply sleeping student on both sides and carried him out of the classroom. The sudden collapse of a person threw the classroom into noisy chaos.

Buzz, buzz—many students muttered things like, “Is he okay...?” while thinking about the boy who had just collapsed. And Origami, the cause of the commotion, wiped away a bead of cold sweat with her sleeve and muttered calmly.

“...It’s fine. The tranquilizer needle lasts at most an hour. By the time class ends, that boy will wake up refreshed with no side effects.”

She felt sorry for the boy who had been tranquilized because of her mistake, but since she didn’t have an antidote right now, all she could do was wait for the effect to wear off. Still, it was a safe tranquilizer needle with no side effects, so there would definitely be nothing wrong with the boy who had just been taken to the infirmary.

Still, she should apologize properly later with some personal compensation. Thinking that, Origami carefully removed the tranquilizer gun from her wrist.

───And then, a few minutes passed.

Woooooooon─────────

“...!”

About ten minutes had passed since the two boys who had taken the sleeping student to the infirmary returned.

And then, without any warning, an alarm filled the surroundings.

The students in the classroom stopped talking and widened their eyes. Origami immediately sprang up from her seat, ready to run outside.

To the public, it was the sound that warned of a [Spacequake]. And to an AST member like Origami, it was the sound that announced a Spirit’s appearance. As an AST member about to be deployed into battle against a Spirit, Origami had to move as quickly as possible.

Students poured out of the classroom and hurried through the hallways toward the shelter.

And Origami moved in the opposite direction from the students evacuating to the shelter, running toward the battlefield.

○○○

When I opened my eyes, it was an unfamiliar ceiling.... I muttered the familiar cliché inwardly and sat up.

White curtains surrounding the bed, the distinctive smell of alcohol that only hospitals had. It must already be evening, because orange light was shining in through the white curtains that enclosed everything around me.

“Why is nobody here?”

With a swish, I pulled back the curtain around the bed and blurted that out without thinking.

This was the infirmary. But there was no one here. Not in the other three empty beds, not at the desk where the school nurse should have been sitting, not even outside the window in the courtyard or the hallway—there wasn’t even the sound of a voice, let alone a human shadow.

“...What the hell?”

There should have been plenty of people in a place like this, so the silence was starting to give me the creeps. I wondered if everyone had just gone home and there was nobody left, but when I looked at the clock on the wall, it was still after school. I turned my gaze toward the window. Not only the courtyard, but even the street beyond the fence showed no sign of people, not even a moving car.

“....................”

For a moment, chills ran down my spine, and I hurried out of the infirmary and into the hallway. I looked around, scanning here and there, but there were no people in the classrooms or the bathrooms either.

A chilling situation where the objects and the space were perfectly fine, but only the people had vanished.

“Where did everyone go...?” I muttered to myself and absentmindedly raised a hand to the back of my neck.

“...Come to think of it.”

I couldn’t remember the details, but something dimly seemed to be coming back to me. I was definitely preparing for class when I suddenly felt a stinging sensation at the back of my neck. And after that, my memory vanished as if I’d fallen asleep....

Huh?

“...Was there a murder case at school?”

The image of some little detective firing a tranquilizer needle at the back of someone’s neck flashed through my mind. I didn’t know why that scene suddenly came to me, but the stinging sensation I’d felt at the back of my neck, and the way my consciousness had suddenly shut off right after, were very similar to what I’d seen in that manga.

But this was the world of the light novel Date A Live, not Detective Conan, right?

...Ah, well, since I’m Sans and all, maybe it wouldn’t be that weird if one more thing got mixed in?

Just as I was heading up the stairs toward Class 2-4 to grab my bag, I muttered that to myself.

“───Huh...?!”

A sound like a bomb exploding came from ahead. At the same time, the entire building shook as if an earthquake had hit, and the windows shattered. Startled, I crouched awkwardly and let out a shocked cry, “Whaaa?!”.

The explosions and vibrations showed no sign of stopping.

“W-what is this?!”

And then it happened.

Suddenly, an explosion far louder than before rang out, and the hallway and wall directly in front of me were blown apart completely. Dust rose up, making it hard to see, but judging from the impact just now, the classroom had definitely been wrecked.

It was Class 2-4. My bag, which I hadn’t managed to grab, flashed through my mind for an instant, but the nonstop explosions were ordering me to get out first.

I hurriedly turned and prepared to run. I tried to use space movement, but I wasn’t skilled enough yet and the situation was too chaotic, so I failed. Right now, the only thing I could trust was my own sturdy legs.

“─?! You, you are...!”

Then, all of a sudden, I heard a familiar voice.

A voice I’d heard this morning too.

This voice was definitely....

“──Itsuka?!”

“...?! You bastard...!”

Startled by the voice from behind me, I turned my head back.

There, against the backdrop of the heavily destroyed classroom, were Shido, looking at me in surprise, and Tohka, glaring at me as if she’d found her sworn enemy.

“Sandalphon〈Jin Satsukou〉!”

The classroom floor shattered, and a massive throne emerged from beneath it. Tohka instantly pulled the sword embedded in that throne and swung it toward me, unleashing a slash.

“T-Tohka! Stop! He’s not the enemy── whaaaat?!”

“You crazy idiot, wait a sec─!”

Instinctively, I used telekinesis to smash the wall on my left and punch a hole through it. Then, the moment it opened, I threw myself through it and barely dodged Tohka’s slash by a hair’s breadth.

But this wasn’t the first floor. My body, having leapt through a hole high up in the building, was quickly pulled down by gravity. Still, I didn’t fall helplessly. I used telekinesis to hold my whole body in place and slow my descent, while at the same time summoning a Gaster Blaster and landing on top of it.

Using telekinesis to control the Blaster, I quickly put distance between myself and the building.

“I never thought I’d see you in a place like this.”

“U-um....”

Pointing the tip of her enormous sword at me, Tohka growled fiercely.

“What are you doing here in front of me again? Have you come to attack me with that mysterious power like last time...?”

“No, no, no, no, I’m not planning to do anything at all───.”

“You’re in league with those Mekamekadan people, and you still dare lie──!!”

“...Huh?”

At Tohka’s mention of the Mekamekadan, I widened my eyes and looked around. The empty air above the school, where Tohka and I were standing. And in that same space, I could see countless AST members.

All of them had their eyes wide open in shock, looking back and forth between me and Tohka.

“Uh───.”

I pulled up my hood to hide my face, but there was no way a school uniform would have a hood. Everyone was holding huge gatling guns or missile launchers and the like, but thankfully, those terrifying weapons still weren’t firing at me.

But an even more terrifying attack was aiming for me.

“Haaaaaaaaaaah──!”

“Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, just a second─!!”

It was just a simple motion of swinging a sword. But the result of that motion was anything but simple. A slash of terrifying power came flying at me, and I hurriedly summoned a Gaster Blaster to counter it with a beam.

But Tohka didn’t seem to have any intention of stopping. She clicked her sword into position and charged at me again.

Blue flames rose from my left eye. Reflexively, I thrust out my right hand and used telekinesis. Tohka, flying in with tremendous force, was knocked back as if she’d collided with something.

“....................”

I hate fighting. If possible, I want to avoid it. But in a situation like this, I couldn’t just keep taking it.

I’d keep Tohka in check as much as possible, and then run the moment I saw an opening!

“But why the hell did this happen in the first place...!!”

Tohka, having been blown back, took her stance again and gripped her sword. As if she were about to fire something like a beam, bright light gathered along the blade in her hand.

All I’d done was wake up in the infirmary and come back to the classroom to get my bag. So how the hell had I ended up fighting Tohka like this?

Pointing the huge blade at me, Tohka’s figure made me summon five Gaster Blasters in return as I shouted loudly.
