Chapter 47: Untitled

Orochi accepted the Evil Pieces obediently.

[So these are Evil Pieces. They are more insignificant tools than I thought.]

The pieces I granted Orochi were Rooks, but perhaps because she was above Dragon King-Class, a single Rook was nowhere near enough.

I just shoved both of them in.

On the back of the white snake, pitch-black bat wings sprouted.

The sight of those tiny wings growing on that massive body was somewhat comical yet oddly cute.

[It does not feel like much has changed. Just an annoying restriction has been added.]

"Technically, it's a tool that adds the racial traits of a Devil. So nothing major would change for you."

Maybe just the downside of becoming weak to Light Power?

Come to think of it, for an already powerful existence, aren't Evil Pieces practically tools that create weaknesses rather than strengths?

Even with the Rook's trait of enhanced physical abilities, what difference does pouring a bucket of water into an overflowing ocean make?

"Hmm... Well, I've already used them, so what can we do? Just think of it as a leash to keep you from rampaging as you please."

[A leash? Your words are harsh, Master. Do you think you can completely tame this body already?]

"I make it a rule not to raise dogs I can't tame."

It was at that moment.

Orochi's massive body began to emit a blinding light.

The flash was so intense that I had to close my eyes for a moment. When I opened them, the mountain-sized Evil Dragon was nowhere to be seen.

Instead of the pressure felt from a massive existence, sharply condensed magical power filled the space.

And in that spot, a woman was sitting.

Two-tone hair, long and snow-white on the outside with blood-red inner strands.

Her bangs came down long enough to almost cover her eyes, but the golden eyes glimpsed between them held a languid yet bewitching aura.

She was wearing something resembling a dark red kimono, but even that looked precarious, as if it might slip off because it couldn't fully cover her massive breasts.

The woman sat comfortably on the ground and gave me a slight wave.

It was such a natural appearance, as if she had been there from the start.

"...You could transform into a human?"

At my question, Orochi tilted her head and answered as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

"What an obvious question to ask. Did you think an existence of my caliber could not mimic a mere human form? Rather, it would be more surprising if I could not."

"No, just... You fought in that massive snake form, so I thought you couldn't. I figured maybe that was your preference."

"That is merely this body's true form and the most comfortable form for exerting power. And honestly speaking, wouldn't it be more comfortable for you to be in this human form rather than that hideous, massive dragon form?"

"Hideous is a bit harsh. Though I can't refute it since it's true."

"More importantly, Master. The contract is complete, so how about giving this body a new name? The name Yamata no Orochi is too long and stiff for this newly reborn body."

"A name..."

I pondered for a moment. Snow-white scales and hair, and the color combination reminiscent of red blood.

"How about Shiro (White)?"

"......"

In an instant, the surrounding temperature dropped rapidly.

Her golden eyes, which had looked languid just a moment ago, flashed with killing intent.

"What... did you just say?"

"Shiro. It means white. I think it suits you well."

"Master. Do you wish to make this body, which has gone to the trouble of resurrecting, commit the high treason of master-killing immediately? To dare try and attach a name fit for a dog or cat raised by humans of this land to this Evil Dragon..."

She is genuinely pissed.

I nearly experienced a mutiny immediately after making a servant because of a careless remark.

"Ahem, it was a joke. I was just trying to lighten the mood. Of course, I've thought of a proper name."

I cleared my throat and made an excuse.

I almost got smacked for spitting out the first thing that came to mind.

Let's think again... Name... Name...

Huh...? Do I have worse naming sense than I thought?

Let's think as hard as I can...

Since she's from Japanese mythology, I should give her a Japanese name.

Hmm......

"How about Yashiro?"

She closed her eyes for a moment at my suggestion, seemingly savoring it.

"Yashiro (社)... A house that enshrines a god."

"Y-Yeah."

"For an Evil Dragon to be called a God's House... It is truly a paradoxical name. However, since I have become a vessel serving a new master—you—perhaps it is the most fitting name. I like it."

Yashiro smiled bewitchingly, as if her anger had never happened, and bowed her head to show respect.

"I shall gladly accept that name. I look forward to serving you, my Master."

Phew, that was close.

She seems to like it.

Actually, I just combined 'Ya' from Yamata no Orochi with the rejected 'Shiro', but this is a secret I must take to my grave.

Anyway, I now have a new Rook.

And a Dragon King-Class Evil Dragon at that.

It was a quite satisfactory result.
